need a voltage regulator???
Well I got my pit bike setup for the drags, I got a light on it so I can see better in the pits when it gets dark (sounds reasonable to me). Well I hooked up a unniversal fog light up to it, it worked great and got bright! The next day I started it, no light. The light bulb took a duce somehow because it was working until the point where I shut it off. Put a new bulb in it with an inline 5 amp fuse, worked for a couple seconds and blew the bulb. So is there something I can use to regulate the voltage going to the light? Its obviously putting out some voltage and I need a way to keep it at 12V.

Okay, its putting out more than 3 amps but less than 5 amps. With 5 amp fuses the bulb will blow but with 3 amp fuses the fuse will blow.

Put a four in it, is that what you wanted to hear.

Wise guy eh? You know what we do to wise guys? If I can keep it at 3 would be happy, I really have no clue why it worked and I got it really bright with the original bulb, then the next day it wouldn't work. Since then every bulb has burned out pretty quickly. I was told I need a rectifier sounds dirty I will ask my old teacher tomorrow, he's also an electronics teacher.342g wrote:bb429power wrote:Okay, its putting out more than 3 amps but less than 5 amps. Justina it not the amp blowing the light it is the volts take a dc volt meter and see how many volts you are putting out.A motorcycle headlight is different than a regular car or truck headlight.

Okay Jimanda, will do It is a unniversal fog light (mainly for a truck), my teacher seemed to think I was getting too much flow (OHMS) because the light itself is supposed to withstand 10 amps. I tried checking the voltage but its set up weird, I think the two wires going to it are both power wires, its just completing a circuit.69F100 wrote:Justina it not the amp blowing the light it is the volts take a dc volt meter and see how many volts you are putting out.A motorcycle headlight is different than a regular car or truck headlight.

Hey Kiddo I think this is what you need.
https://www.dbelectrical.com/p-5612-new-rectifier-regulator-briggs-stratton-192400-196400-abs6000.aspx
Might be able to find a used one on a junk riding mower engine or new at your local TSC, Rural King, Farm Fleet, etc..
The 2 wires on the plug go to the stator, the other is your 12 volt output.
Good luck

Cool, thanks mike. That seems to be the best option.
