Jw flexplate problems
I am currently working on a build for my super pro Corvette that is powered by ford. We have built a 545 that is using a 4340 scat crankshaft and kaase p-51 heads, with a powerglide and JW bell behind it. My question centers around the flywheel, flywheel mounting flange and converter. I ordered the pilot insert/bushing from JW to connect the pg converter to the ford crank. This adapter fits very tightly on the converter snout I have read that this should be tight but should freely move/rotate on the converter snout. Has anyone had this problem? Is it a big deal? How did you remedy it? Next problem is that when I try to bolt up my JW flywheel I can get 5 bolts to start but the 6th one will not go. I have tried all six of the different possible positions. Has anyone had this problem with either JW or the mounting flange on the scat crank? My initial instinct is to drill out all six holes on the flexplate a little bit to get the last bolt to fit, but the wheel is SFI certified and I know that will lose that if I start drilling on it. Am I the only one having these problems or has this been seen before? I am planning on calling scat and JW tomorrow, but I was curious if anyone had seen this before.

Don't Drill! Something else is wrong. Is it flipped engine side out? Are you sure you have tried all posistions? Is the wheel drilled off, send it back. Check the crank with a known good flywheel. Report back
PS, is this corvette from Alvin Texas?

I did try both directions just to be sure. Problem is I don't have a original flywheel to test fit with or I would try that. I will call JW in the Morning.

Oh and no I'm not from Texas I am from Kansas City, MO, but This corvette used to race top sportsman with an alcohol injected big block chevy. I bought it in '09 from a guy outside Atlanta GA.

Yeah, I was just wondering. The Pollard's used to run a Ford powered corvette. I haven't met up with them in years and didn't know if it might have been the same one.

Re: Jw flexplate problems
There may be a problem with your Wheel. Call Eric at JW and explain the deal.
Also, the I.D. of that adapter bushing should be real close to 1.70".
I have purchased 3 or 4 of those from JW and they all had the correct fit. The converter pilot may be a little fat, or slightly damaged. It should have about .001 clearance...just a nice loose slip fit.
I just installed a new JW Wheel and was dissapointed by several aspects fit and finish. Since it was the middle of the night, I had to install it and move on. The crank mounting holes should need no modification.
I hope this helps.

I called JW Performance today and discussed your Wheel problems with Tracy Winters. She said that the
#93001 Wheel is CNC machined in-house, so they have control of all processes. She checked and they have received no recent reports of any fit issues with this part number. If you can't make sense of the deal, just give them a call.

You got a stock crank or flex plate, if so check the plate and make sure it is correct.

A little more detail on my "ballpark" specs last night....
I actually measured a new converter pilot...and it was 1.703". That makes sense, since the notes that I have for the JW adapter show the I.D being 1.704".

Re: Jw flexplate problems
I'm using a JW Wheel and a Scat Forged Crank and I remember the fit was fairly tight. You can get all the bolts in but again it was pretty tight which cut a few threads into the powdercoated bolt holes of the JW Wheel.
I also noticed that the Forged Crank and/or JW wheel sits a little closer to the the trans which affected the converter location. Good thing I measured before ordering the converter.... I test fit two converters (Chuck's and Bill's) before ordering the new converter for my combo.
Try again and you may have to remove a little powdercoat from the I.D. of the bolt hole(s) in order to make it fit.
Edit: When I ordered my converter, I had them add a crank pilot extension onto the converter pilot in order to eliminate the need for an adapter thingy.

Re: Jw flexplate problems
I just tried to use a JW pilot adapter bushing in my deal. It fit the crank and converter fine, but was too short in the end. I have a 1/2" midplate in the dragster. If I had the typical 1/8 midplate setup it would've worked fine. I ended up getting a custom one made that was 3/8" longer than the JW one. You could try sanding the converter snout to get it to loosen up some. I had to do that to mine...
As far as the flexplate goes, is it marked "engine side"? Mine eventually went on. But mine isn't powdercoated either. I don't see any reason you can't sand the inside of the holes to get soem paint out of there. I wouldn't take a drill bit to it though.
