Re: E4OD trans brake
'cause I need more weight in the car.....
Nah, my goal is to put 2000 street miles on the car next year, and I ain't gonna harsh myself by not having overdrive.
Hopefully I can sell my two C6's... both broader performance fully rollerized deals... and my converter and have the $$$ to get a trans controller and a converter for the E4OD I already have here.

Re: E4OD trans brake
ok if your after the o/d deal then I can see it.
I han considered developing a tb for the e4/4r at one time for the diesel fags, lost interest in it.
The converter may take some doing.

Re: E4OD trans brake
I see you already have an E4OD... but not wanting to try the AOD? Won't need a control box with that and only the throttle valve cable... You'd definitely save some weight and AOD's nowadays are quite proven behind high HP motors.
Plus, that JW adapter bellhousing is a nice piece and fits well.
But, you probably already knew all of that
Here is the link to the E4OD page on Lentech's website http://www.lentechautomatics.com/4r100products.html#
Either way, sounds very cool!

Re: E4OD trans brake
Yep...seems everything from Lentech is expensive.
Gearvendors is definitely expensive and I think it negates Greg's idea of selling his current trannies to pay for what he wants to do? Supposed to be nice units, however.
FWIW, I bought my AOD with a manual and transbraked Lentech VB, and all the fancy upgrades completely fresh for $1400. It was in a twin turbo small block car running 9.20's. Have about $500 additional with adding the JW Bell for a total of around $2000.

Re: E4OD trans brake
I do not see an AOD putting up with the torque of the 545 combined with the weight of my car.
A gear vendors would be OK, but I'd have to cut up the floor in the car and would overheat the trans with the high stall non lockup converter.
I already have the E4OD, and if I'm gonna have to cut the car to make anything fit, I might as well install a known bulletproof trans with a lockup converter.
At least that's my thinking.
The E4OD seems like a very strong trans. If the weight is a problem, I'll up the spray....lol.....

what kind of power will a warmed over E4OD take?
how much power do they soak up?
what do they weigh in comparison?

According to Jay at Broader Performance, the E4OD should be able to take the same power as a C6.
As far as power loss, I have no clue, but with more crap in there to turn I can only assume the loss would be greater than a C6.
The E4OD is super frickin heavy, and using the slipped disc scale for reference, the E4OD probably weighs 75 lbs more than an AOD.

Re: E4OD trans brake
All I know is when I had to redo the E4OD in my truck last year (thanks Jon and Jay) I had to make this jig to hold the darn thing while I assembled it.
I then had to use my cherry picker to get it down off the engine stand!

Re: E4OD trans brake
Why won't someone develop a manual valve body for the E4OD. Put OD on a switch. They have them for the 4r70w, why not the E4OD? I would be all over an E4OD if someone would build a manual valve body for it.

Re: E4OD trans brake
They already work this way...........sorta.
For a full manual deal I'll build you one for say 10,000 dollars...lol, the second one would be a good bit cheaper.

Re: E4OD trans brake
Oh no Greg. You started the thread. You are obviously in line ahead of me. I'm fine with the second one. You may have all the glory of being first.
Really though, I would be happy with simple toggle switches or push buttons. How about a little up and down shifter like on a motorcycle? My left foot isn't doing anything anyway!
The price of the trans, price of the rebuild, and price of the controller, puts it just out of my budget.

Re: E4OD trans brake
the shifting is no big deal to control, its the line pressure that has to be reglated somehow, the controllers are out there its just the cost lol.
