Look what I'll be workin' on........
My friend John asked if I'd put his new engine together. It's a 528" C-Headed, short deck A-460 block. 9.75" deck, 4.630" bore, 3.920" stroke, 6.385" BBC rod.
My only concern is, with the deck as short as it is, there are no more top bellhousing bolts holes. Is there going to be enough strength to mount a trans? Or is there something one can do with a mid-plate to be able to use the 2 top holes for the bell? I was looking at the A-500 block, and it looks like it uses a SBF bell...? But I don't think that would even be an option here...?

you could use a plate with the normal counter sunk bolts to attach it to the block and press in type studs for the transmission.

Doug,
Check those combustion chambers... Rob had to re-cut his. I guess this is a problem area. Before you deck or anything else, since they are very large to begin with.
Regards.
