Need to convert to manual brakes Empty Need to convert to manual brakes

Post  airford1 April 26th 2011, 7:41 am

I want to dump the power booster on my 72 Ranchero and go to a manual brake master cylinder because the motor doesnt have good vacumn and the pump I have has dropped vacumn once and going over 100mph at 1/8 mile drag strip has me thinking about something more reliable.

What should I look for?

I did this on my '86 F150. You should be able to buy a manual master cylinder from most parts stores. O'Reilly's actually had one for a 1986 F150. You'll have to make a small adapter plate to put on the firewall, so you can have a place to mount it once you pull the booster off. You may also have to find or modify your brake pedal rod. I had to make a longer one for mine but they work just fine.

I dont have a can in the system. The more I think about the need for speed I also have a need to stop. I think I will just go the manual brake route. Simple and you know what you got.

I'll have you two part numbers tonight, one is for fender side lines. The other will be for motor side lines. You can get either a a local part store for under 40.00 dollars. The fender side line makes it easier to change plugs.

we use a master from a 1984 ranger w/man brakes, works perfect, rem to raise the pin on the brake pedal. i have installed this master on countless cars, from a 11.00 64 gal @ 4700 pounds to a 2900 pound mid 8 car, doesnt matter if drum, dis and drum,or all 4wdic, works perfect, and is a bolt on deal. and a plus is lines come out toward fender
