68 429 carb issues
Hey guys. I'm having some issues with my Lincoln 68 429. Rebuilt the motor. Everything is stock except intake manifold. I threw on a 750 carb on it with an electric choke. When I got the motor running. It was dumping a shit load of fuel fowling up the plugs and spitting gas up through the carb when I gave it a full shot of gas. Idle screws were also turned in all the way and truck still idling very high.
Now the butterfly was not working properly before but my question is this carb too much for a stock 429. I'm thinking of jetting it down to a 600 or 650. What would be the best route? Any help is appreciated.

750 is not too big for a 385 series engine and you have vacuum leak that is why it will run with idle screws turned all the way in. As for it dumping fuel look down into it while its running and see if its leaking on the inlet side of top plate thats where the last 2 I used leaked, never will use eddy carbs again.

I turned the screws in all the way and it dyed out so I screwed out like a quarter turn or so. I sprayed cleaner all around the motor to see if there was any vacuum leaks and didn't find any. I'm thinking there is a defect in the carb cause I noticed the butterfly was not working properly.
As for other carbs, which ones work best. Is holly a good choice and should I stick with a 750? I read somewhere that a 600 will give me more bottom end and 750 more top end.
