Re: Built a new tool
The guy that did my car has one just like it. I would build one, but my welding skills are so poor that all of the gear oil would run out the ends of the axles.
Nice work !!!!

Alignment bar Looks good to me, damn clean shop floor too.
......Shit....I suddenly have this nagging feeling I need to sweep up my shop.........hopefully this urge to clean up will fade with some beer intake.

Can I ask a stupid question? Besides that one Okay, how does it work? Is it so you can align the axle tubes for welding them to the housing or am I way off? If not I ain't got the darndest clue

The alignment bar is used to align the housing ends back on bearing centerline (to weld them back on) after narrowing the rear housing down.

That is where the gear oil runs out when I weld it up.

I can take a few more pics of that shop for you Dave, and it isn't that clean at all. I just picked a lucky spot for the shot.

It's also for checking straightness of an axle housing to make sure it isn't bent

Looks good Rob, I have the material to build one also, as soon as I get my lathe set up. What diameter round bar did you use?
