sounds great... what seems to be the issue with the roller lifters that need changing, or is that the norm............

Update
Just had a good weekend away at the track, result was a PB of 10.68 @ 127.
That's the good news after getting the car home and off the trailer checked fluids and found oil and water mixed so after engine out found this in no.8
And found the cause of a long term plug fouling problem in no.8 also

After an inspection of of the parts as it was pulled apart a quick wash with some solvent and now time to start planing to make it better/stronger/faster!

Yeah got that to, oil ring has been a problem since last rebuild, it was the hole in the bore that hastened the tear down.
new block
I always go the extra nothing worse than doing a job and it not being enough, and having to tear down again would stink.... how long was the motor together before this happened.....

4 1/2 years. Each year a couple of days drag racing and some weekend motorsport events. Just a bit pissed that something undetectable like this has occurred.

yea you are rite it does suck, but look at it this way it could have been totaled and cost you a lot more. whats the bore on the cylinders at now.

Yeah could have been worse, as it was I think the trans dying on the last run I did saved me from disaster. It's at 30 now. I'm working out the cost of resleeving all 8 V's new block. Don't want the thought of another bore having the same problem laying in my head.
sleeve
wow 30 that's not very much block could be thin in a couple spots, good Idea doing all 8. makes me wonder about mine I will say this you don't here of this that often usually the blocks are good. is it a d1ve block.. car looks and sounds great im sure you will get it together.

It's a D1VE block. I'm wondering whether due to the long term oil ring problem if there was a detonation problem that could have caused it?

Started to foul straight away and looked like this within a hundred miles.
plug
I guess chaulk it up to a learning experience. hopefully you wont endure that again.make it a point to read your plugs annually incorporate that in to a timing check and valve adjustment , and jetting....... im having a hard time thinking the oil ring did that to the block, I could be wrong..

I guess I'm throwing thoughts into the air as I'm not to happy something undetectable like this has happened.
I had a regular maintenance schedule of every couple of months doing tappets and plugs and before every race meet a full service and lifter inspection. I've known about the plug problem for a long time and tried many things to eliminate the cause and it was due to be pulled apart after this last meet but I didn't want this additional damage to have occured. Maybe good in a way as I would have been pissed if the bore problem happened after a freshen up.
bore problem
thats the way to look at it live and learn now you know what u have to do to make it better.if you sleeve all 8 will u be able to reuse the pistons or do you have to go 40 over...what do you think you had for hp and torque....

Decided to go with a new block, Eliminator sportsman maybe. Eliminator guys wont answer my e-mails at the moment though.
Had between 600-650HP don't know about torque as it was never on an engine dyno, but many runs on a chassis dyno always tried to lift the car of the rollers in the mid range RPM's.
new block
yea that would be the way to go with a block put it together and don't have to wonder or worry,i was hoping to be around the 700 hp mark myself Im thinking the car will be around 3400 lbs and that should get me well into the 10 s out of the box would make me happy. my over all goal is 9.90 street car,the trick is keeping it fun

New Block has arrived!
An unused SVO A460 block that had been sitting in a shed for some time.
Off to the machine shop and refit old bottom end, then refreshed heads, only change to old set up would be to go with a custom cam over the old XR292R.

Block fully machined, new parts arrived, ASSEMBLY TIME
This SVO A460 is a very early casting and had a couple of irregularities,
1. Found a sleeve in no.1 mains oil gallery(pic 1) which was blocking the feed to cam bearings. Removed it to correct blockage and found out it was there to fix a machining fault, the boring for the gallery broke through the water jacket (Pic 2).
2. Lifter bores needed a clean up and after light hone for recommended clearance the bores were still a little ruff and tapered out at the bottom, bushes were installed.
