Canton makes a nice one.
MPG also offers one too.
And yes, one is manditory IMO unless the pan is equiped with one built in.

Thats good stuff, Moroso and Canton also make pans you may want to look at.

You need to use either a windage tray or a scraper to keep the oil from attaching to and remaining on the turning crank. Of the two the windage tray is less expensive but the scraper is more effective. The windage tray is the minimum.

If you're talking about the flat windage trays that bolt to the bottom of the mains, they really do more harm than good. They reflect most of the oil back on the crank causing more aeration and parasitic drag, and they also prevent oil from getting back to the pan where it belongs. You're honestly better off without one. Windage trays or screens belong down in the bottom of the pan as far away from the crank as they can get. Scrapers are a good and effective means of getting oil off the crank and back in the pan.

Doesn't a main cap girdle (halo) also assist in cutting down the oil whip, windage?

That really depends upon the oil pan underneath it.

Not realy....... thier are still big openings in the useless pieces or plate that allow alot of splash..... so in conclusion they aren't even good to help reduce windage and oil control either....

Yes ... a scraper is most effective of removing oil from the spinning rotating assembly however, it also costs the most power.

I take it you are of the opinion that main cap girdle/halos serve no meaningful purpose?dfree383 wrote:..... so in conclusion they aren't even good to help reduce windage and oil control either....

The Commercialy avaliable ones that do not contact the center of the cap are useless and a waste of money. if you want one to hold a windage tray.... its just an expensive bracket.

Ain't it fun when you actually test things? You learn not to believe half the stuff you read - and to question the rest...
