trying to get pushrod lengths!!!! Empty trying to get pushrod lengths!!!!

Post  stanggt August 4th 2011, 7:24 pm

I bought a length checker and for exaust if I start with the roller tip in center of valve tip, Im at 9.060 but when i roll engine to max lift the roller is right to the outer edge of stem. And then when I try to get my intake length, I have to be down at about 8.40 to get roller to center of stem but at that point the rocker is hitting retainer!! What is going on here? oh and when I roll intake to max lift that also runs out to ende of tip. I have Milodon roller arms. I got the motor with stock iron heads and these rockers were on that but dont know if they were right either. As fasr as I know this block has not been decked and its .030 over with a new set of scj heads that Im trying to finish install and these rockers and pushrods are throwing me for a loop. What do I need here? Please help and ask questions if needed.

Are you sure you have 1.73 rockers and not 1.70 chevy rockers could be some of the problem but not real sure if the 1.70 will do what you are talking about. Are you running a solid lift cam if so make you have the rocker are set right on the gap.I had a time figuring out the right length on mine.Finding the right length can drive you crazy sometimes or it does for me.

not sure, I believe they are a standard stud as opposed to the longer for girdles. Plenty of thread for rocker nut.

heads are out of the box with just some port clean up and match to gaskets. I will try those lengths and see. Thanks

actually I cant go any shorter on intake cause these rocker arm are hitting the retainer stopping them from dropping anymore. Thats why Im thinking I might need a different set of arms.

Measure them from the flat of the base of the threads, where it bolts to the head, to the top.

That was why I was asking. 1.75" are Chevy deals, try some 1.9" or 2.0" deals and I bet things will look better for you.

I dont understand why longer ones are needed, please explain so I can understand. Is it so I can use longer pushrods, getting the rocker, Pushrod side, higher? scratch

it would also help to know what brand of rocker arms you are using.

milodon 1.73. I think I found my problem, Valve stem on intake valve is .135 above locks and the exaust is .230 above locks. That is why I am having problems with intake and not exaust cause stem is higher allowing me to adjust letting the roller come back farther on the stem. Looks like I need lash caps for intake valves or the valves should have been .100 longer

6049 scj heads aluminum , I dont know the length of valves, they are Manley. I think Im starting to figure this out. I was told earlier to use a taller rocker stud and I assume its to get the rocker higher to take some of the sweep away so roller doesnt travel all the way across the valve?

If they are manley they should have a part number in the tip / stem .
