Drilling and tapping a phenollic carb spacer?
Has anybody drilled and tapped a phenollic carb spacer with any luck or is an aluminum carb spacer the better option. Need to tap a carb spacer for PCV and vac modulator.
Thanks

Drilling YES ... press the tube for vacuum into the spacer after drilling to the correct size for light press.

For some reason, that stuff cuts better and cleaner if it's really cold. Throw it in the freezer overnight, and then drill it undersize for your press fit tube.

Like the others have said, you can drill and tap it. And Charlies suggestion about freezing it first works real good. Phenolic material is some wonderful stuff, we still use it on the aircraft at work for control cable pulleys, and hydraulic line support/clamp blocks.

JOMAR has to have the best vacuum/separator system for machining that stuff that I've ever seen.

WE HELICOIL THEM TOO.....
The phenolic oval track adapters we make are drilled, tapped, and helicoiled.... We've sold thousands and I don't recall any complaints... I'm sure you could overtorque a stud or bolt and rip the helicoil out. Some day I'll try it with a torque wrench and post the results!
