Need help deciding on a combo .
As most of you know, When Dad passed back in January, I acquired 2 of his project cars. One, a '64 Ranchero, that will be finished pretty much as he was going to do. Most of the parts are here and progress has been made on it...
The second car, The '72 Merc Capri, is the problem child...Dad originally was going to put a SBF and the 4+1 trans in it. When I got it home, I thought I would put the 557 P51 head motor in it w/ "glide from Dee's dragster. The car has been backhalved w/ 4 link. It is going to be a street toy that sees "some" track use, as Dad intended.
Question is... What would you do and why ???

I saw a couple of neat Rancheros at the NMRA Finals today in Beech Bend. They were gathering some spectator "attention". Probably more than a Capri would. Does that help?

Charlie, I'm going to finish both. The Ranchero will be passed on to my son, when the time comes...The Capri is more of a toy.
I've thought about putting the BBF in it, so I could drive in and run the local 6.0 index class..lol

Wouldn't it be more "street" friendly with the small block?

Just for some WOW factor, it would look really cool with a set of Hemi heads under the hood, but that takes away any idea of "streetability". Didn't somebody do a pump gas P51 deal on here a while back? That should be fairly streetable, with enough oomph to get into that index.

I would put the 557 P head engine in it and drive it like I stole it. Why? Because it would be stolen if I drove it . Seriously though, you've got one bad ass P head that was the first to break in to the 4's and ready to go.

If it was me...I would build the sbf and put it in front of the stick (if that what a 4+1 is)... just like he wanted and intended to do.

Mike put you a 427 sbf in it or the 557 p-headed both will be a hand full to drive on the street
