Beware of Ford Trucks
This truck is parked on State Road 135 near where I live. Didn't know if anyone has seen this yet. Here is the link.

I love how Ford gets the bad "RAP" from the 6.0 and 6.4. Those are not even our engines!
Ford has done so much for the counrty! WWII, police and militray, jobs, the list goes on and on! AND ON!
I'll give this JACKA** the what's up when I get ahold of him or her! DOes not matter to me!

Not exactly true Adam. These were not sold as an aftermarket add on. The do suck and are awfully expensive to fix if Ford wouldn't do it under warranty. I personally would not own one, however, I am very happy with what I am hearing about the new diesel engine.

The truck sits in Trafalgar Indiana. I would say the number of people that drive by there everyday is in the thousands.

Re: Beware of Ford Trucks
I'm glad that guy reminded me I need to get my truck to the dealer to get that March update done to the PCM.
I think that guy got shafted because he bought a USED truck that more than likely had a chip in it at some point. I also own a 6.4, and while it HAS had it's fair share of problems, all has been fixed for some time, by the dealer. I had problems getting the DEALER to do their part. Sometimes you need to let the DEALER know that you are just as educated as they are about the potential problems and recalls associated with your vehicle. Once my DEALER knew I was on top of my game about my truck I had no issues...

Re: Beware of Ford Trucks
Here is what happened, seen it many times................
...........the radiator leaked, coolant level got low enough to allow the horizontal egr cooler to be at risk of failing.........but not enough for the tech to catch it on the road test after the radiator repair. So now the cooler fails..............eng hydrolocks and bends #8 rod............so now you need a shortblock. After the customer gets it fixed he gets the letter in the mail for the 11b23 recall that reprograms the pcm, more or less now the sensors see any type of EOT/ECT correlation issues, coolant under over temp codes the engine derates and thus is supposed to protect the engine, which most of the time is not true.
Of all the warranty return parts we turn back in the horizontal egr cooler is the #1 kicked back item, I have had them deny a claim saying the cooler was not faulty when the son of a bitch is still in a box on the return shelf in the back of the parts room!!!! They damn sure are feeding you a line when the motherf'ucker aint even left our shop!
So now any suspect coolers that should be replaced dont...........because the bean counters make it such a PITA.
And for all the issues being international fault, did they build the radiator that started the whole mess? I have repaired now less than 6 trucks this week, 1 for a failed radiator and the other 5 had leaky rad hose O-rings, number 4 is waiting on a shortblock.
And dont think I'm bitching, I have had the best year on record as far as $$$$ goes..........all 6.0/6.4, a few 7.3's, and quite a few tranny failures in the gassers.
The coolant leaks and the effects of the regen/dpf process diluting the oil is the biggest killer of the 6.4 engine.
Getting the update flash will almost certainly mean there is a return visit to your dealer, the slightest thing will put it into derate, 65% come back within 2 weeks with T-stat codes. Ford did this to reduce the amount of severe engine failures, It may have helped some, but not much.

What exactly does/did the "Venturi Tee" fix? Doesn't it tie into the top line out of the EGR or cooler?

Re: Beware of Ford Trucks
On a positive note, the new 6.7 deals.............we just change oil in them, they just dont have any real issues.
Dont buy a used 6.4 with a bunch of miles lol.

Re: Beware of Ford Trucks
Not taking sides or anything, but FORD would have been money ahead if they would've just fixed the truck. They're going to lose more profit in sales (not to mention the pending lawsuit) from this dudes negative press, than the labor/parts it would've took to repair it.
I'm a Ford guy thru & thru, but If I shelled out 50k for a truck (Granted, he bought it used) and they didn't fix it, I'd be pissed too. Don't think I'd take it to the extreme like this guy though. LOL
FWIW,....
I'll just keep my ol 97 7.3 Powerstroke w/ 311k on it. If it ever dies, I'll find another engine with less than 200k on it, throw it in there and keep on truckin.
