WHICH PISTON RINGS?
Ok just got done tearing this motor down and I figured out the ring size is .043, 1/16 and 3/16. So now what kind of ring is most commonly used for a drag race application? I was looking at JE web site and they have 6 different top ring styles. Not trying to be cheap but My machine shop charges out the Azz for parts these days. I build a 347 last year for a friend and they charged me $300 for a ring set
Thinking this is the ring package that best suites my needs? Please correct me if I'm wrong

Is that a file fit ring? I'll be on the phone monday. What kind of rod and main bearing are you selling now? I'll have the crank out sunday. Billet Scat with no center counter weights

Ace , bore size plus you need to know the radial before ordering a ring set

Good point and that was gonna be my 1st question if/when I talked to him.....the part # he referenced was a D-wall set.
Ace, what Dan is addressing is......are the top two rings .170"ish or .210"-212"ish inside to out?
D-wall is the thicker stuff.

Just measured them and I'm coming up with .206-.207 ish
I haven't got the crank out because I don't have 1/2" 12 point 1/2" drive to break the outer main bolts loose. I'll get one tomorrow and then call you mid week. I have this older SVO A460 block and have no idea what the min bolts torque to or the 12 point 1/2" bolt torque to.

Radial Measurement .206-.207 ish. What I found on the JE site is .212-.210. Do I need to check the depth of the ring land as well to make sure this will work. Hell there JE Pistons in the thing. Or could the have been worn that much? Lem looks like the have to be Dropped shipped From Akrely & Childs

At any rate the pistons you have are for the Dwall ring.......they'd be .170" if they were the back cut style.

ONLY $300.00 for an entire ring set...?
.8 mm top compression rings are $67.00 EACH.
I guess it all depends upon the level of what you wish to accomplish.

You have to use toenail clippers. Fingernail clippers have too much curvature.

My wife says I use them to cut everything except fingernails! She would accuse me of fitting pistion rings with them as well.

Got a hold of Shawn today and got things handled. The Cam gear that was on this motor was not machined down and you could see the grind marks on the gear and the cam thrust cover as well. I'm glad you brought that up yesterday becasue this is where the metal in the engine came from.
