who has the "Magic Heads"
the Duck on yb is wineing that the bbf & bbc conventional heads are now flowing over 500cfm and takeing over the x275 radial classes previously dominated by the sb.the word is they are running low 4.7d's and the sb's are about maxed out with the current head rules.this is with 1 nos system plate or fogger no progressive etc.
the bbf a460 heads are what has been mentioned the most at 500 or above cfm.is any one here getting that kind of flow from the A heads?i read were blakes p51's have 425-430 cfm is this the max that can be achieved?
i have been watching these classes for a while now and seeing the bb stuff making a showing.team Z has had a hand in helping them get their suspension dialed in with a low 1.xx 60ft.

if the a460 cylinder head was "THE" head you had to use in your class and money was no object , achieving over 500 cfm would be attainable

The "A" heads from IDT will get to that air flow rather consistently. However, you will need to use almost an inch of valve lift.
You're not going to get anywhere near the "A" head with a P-51. However their best airflow is NOT above .750" valve lift.

they just can't take the amount of nitrous and live very long. the 10 head bolts don't help much either. big blocks are the only way to go in a head limited class.

rfd has several 24* heads that flow over 500 ......... but there are only 2-3 companies that advertise those numbers , but i assure yall that all the heavy hitters are flowing well over 500 cfm on ther " conventional heads "
and i have no doubt in my mind that if i gave Evans 10 stacks and a set of tfs a heads that it could be done

When the rules were written it was the only thing that would compete with the chebby stuff. I have personally seen some of the new chebby edelbrock stuff go in the 525-530 range.
How about we do like some tractor pulling classes and put an RPM limit on them and give them the chip to do it.

Re: who has the "Magic Heads"
A ten stack thats nothing to these guys who can afford it especially when the purse is 3-4 times that.
So no one is admitting that they are running the "MAGIC HEADS" here?remember this is on a 4500 single cast intake

Re: who has the "Magic Heads"
dry flow isn't everything..... combustion chamber, valve placement, sparkplug location, dome size, ect all come into play. its much more scientific the "My heads flow more than yours"138 wrote:That sounds a little odd... But ok.

I'm aware of the rock'n conventional bbc heads. The conv. bbc heads are defined in most rule books as something not less than 23*ish valve angles. Otherwise there is not much "conventional" about them. One inch lift cams etc. are required to make them the most effective. A set is coming down this way for a bbc unpaved track vehicle. Two things you can count on......I'll get them on the flow bench & a very good set of C460 heads/manifold could be cheaper.
Magic and money both start with a "M".

Re: who has the "Magic Heads"
my IDT heads flowed 498 @ .900 on a 4.500 bore.i'd think on a 4.625 they'd do more, which IDT said 511 on 4.625. one thing i've heard the local chevy guys talk about is needing a big core cam.they spend a lot just to have a cam of much size.lol. i heard of one guy who took a chevy/olds block of some sort, aftermarket anyway, and had the headbolt holes located for EX514 heads.then he got a chevy intake,it was cast i know, and cut it all up to fit the ex heads.the chevy guys were bitchen about it having ford heads.lol.....and it wore their asses out at the truck pull too.
