with the power and rear gear they run the 3 speed works better.............but a 3 speed is not always better for all applications..........

Re: Wicked Big Block 10.5W car!
Rich the way I look at it is when you can use a 2 speed and be faster than the 3 speed and only make 1 shift it is a good deal... Why shift 2 times when you have the possibility of missing one of the shift points, when 1 will do it........ The other thing is why do you need 3 gears anyway I thought you built these Engines to use the Torque? if they were small cubes and way less torque I could see a 3 speed....

Its not my fault if you cant understand the physics behind this idea.
Each application has setup that is better suited for it than others, some even like 5 speeds...........

really?
So that why pro stock is tryin to get 6 speeds legal?
Your saying a 3 speed is not as good? not without a power adder. BUT THATS A DIFFERENT STORY . and more engine.
lol and a 2 speed is faster? anyone will say going to a 2 speed means a gear change in the rear, lower!
why dont you start a new thread, this one has been hi jacked now.
also go to yellow bulliet and read all of the guys who SLOWED DOWN switching to a glide. I can see it in a bracket car, a rail, light car,or someone who just doesnt want to shift.
but to say a 2 speed is better? tell that to all the guys switchin back to 3 or more gears.
I agree theres a place for 2 speeds, but they are not better

Funny, I didnt make a gear swap and it went FASTER with the glide.......................application............
no need to start another thread...............its a dead horse anyway..................

Very nice write-up about Jim Brown's car! I'm honored to say I know Jim, and he's certainly one of the good guys in racing.

Re: Wicked Big Block 10.5W car!
Your talking about a 3k low. 5 second 1/8 mile power adder car, Rich is talking about a 6-7 second 1/4 mile n/a door car. When you build a car you generally have a transmission in mind you plan on using and set the car up accordingly. There's no denying the mechanical advantage of a 3 speed, however you also have to factor in the ability to get the car down the track consistently with 3 gears I.e shiftpoints, and the simplicity, low maintenance, and durability of the glide. Pick what you'd like they both have their place.richter69 wrote:Funny, I didnt make a gear swap and it went FASTER with the glide.......................application............

Barney,
Speaking of 6-7 second 1/4 mile n/a door cars,,,,,what e.t. did Rich's car end up running this year. I believe y'all had just brought the car out at the Ford Bash and still had some sorting out to do.

Re: Wicked Big Block 10.5W car!
Again not every application is the same, and for some the 2 speed is the better choice. My original comment included that the car in this topic was better suited w a 3 speed............
I promise ya if Ford had produced all those taxi cab trannys there wouldn't be all the arguments over the subject from the Ford guys lol. Use what works best for an application no matter the brand.

Re: Wicked Big Block 10.5W car!
He only put 10 passes on the car this year. He went 7.80s at 187ish at the Ford deal Eric had up here at Byron. Probly has some more in it, but not bad for a new ride.c.evans wrote:Barney wrote:Your talking about a 3k low. 5 second 1/8 mile power adder car, Rich is talking about a 6-7 second 1/4 mile n/a door car.
