C4 trans imput shaft won't turn in any gear ! Any Ideas ?

I have a C4 trans , stock that was suppose to be rebuilt .
When I move the shift lever from Park into any gear or neutral , the imput shaft will not turn at all . I have also put a driveshaft in the trans and still nothing moves .
I did remove the front pump and looks clean inside .
Any ideas on what might be wrong where it would cause the shaft not turn in any gear position ? I am not a auto trans rebuilder or have ever tried to rebuild one as of yet . I do build engine so I have tools .

I hope someone has an idea on how to correct this trans problem or what the heck is wrong with it .
Again all the parts are stock in the trans and no performance upgrades were made with different parts . I think there might have been some extra clutches added in but that would be it .

so does it turn in park? or just not at all............period? gear position should make no difference if the trans in on a bench and your trying to turn the shaft by hand..................also are you trying to turn it with say a pair of vice grips (shaft wrapped in a rag to protect the splines) or just with your bare hand? The clutches may have been installed dry or clearance too tight making it tough to turn.

These are a pretty simple trans so it should not be hard to figure out with some internet assistance.......... I have talked many a 4r100 O/H through over the phone...........

Will not turn in any gear , period !
I have tried plyers and vice grips with protectors so I didn't hurt the shaft .
It's locked up solid and will not budge !
So do you think you might have some ideas on it's problem ? Now I am also assuming it was rebuilt . When I got it there was no signs of any trans fluid in the trans pan or when I removed the front pump so I will assume it was torn down and rebuilt .

Check your band Adjustment on both bands. also might want to take the front pump back out and make sure the direct and forward clutch packs are aligned and seated. The small 26 or 24 spline shaft should turn with just using your pointer finger and thumb other wise its not assembled corectley.

I don't know how to check the bands adjustments or anything like that . I was only a standard trans person when it came to rebuilding transmissions .
I have never taken one completely apart yet ! I ONLY had the front pump out to look inside and that was it .
If there is a place on line that can tell me how to get the trans apart to check these things out please let me know .

He now has it so you can down load them.

Sounds like a thrust washer has fell out of place taking out all the end play. You need to disassemble the insides and build it back up correctly. You should find a shop manual first if you haven't been in a C4.

I checked out the DVD that guy has and they really look good .
Has anyone ever bought them and used them to rebuild with yet ?

I was also looking at a couple other ones he has as well like the Ford 9" rear , C6 trans and a standard trans if he has one of those too .
If you go all the way down to the bottom of the page you will see that even the price for one disc is a great deal but if you buy two disc you get them for lesss than $50 !
Now that's the best deal yet !

i had one i had got the guy swore it was good..did the exact same thing as yours..what happened was when he took the bell housing off i guess i pull to hard and the pump slightly moved and then he pulled the shaft out..it locked it..i centered the shaft and put it back ..worked like it should

The front pump was off center when I did get the trans . The front pump was removed for inspection and then replaced with proper torque . I installed the shaft and still won't work . Something inside the drum I am gearing towards as the problem . I have to get the trans disc ordered before I can go any farther because I don't know how to rebuild them yet . I do have a book but until I have the time and I am ready to take the trans apart to rebuild I am not going to go any further right now . I was just hoping it would have been something simple that was over looked but doesn't seem to be the case . It will be a good learning experence when I do rebuild the trans !
