Solid Roller ? Empty Solid Roller ?

Post  JR Performance Motorsport February 11th 2012, 4:22 pm

For an endurance style BBF 513 ci with a cam of around .750 lift, what lifters do you guys recommend?

Thank you

I'd say Comp Cams # 836 will do fine. You're not talking about much lift, and for "endurance" I am assuming that your springs pressures will not be real radical.

Personally, for milder type engines I use the Lunati #72412-16 which are very similar to the Crane lifters used in the FRPP crate 514's. As a longevity exercise, I put those lifters in a 1,200 horsepower, supercharged, 528, drag boat engine because it gets refreshed every year and I could keep track of the wear progression. After 3 years, they got replaced.
The Comp Cams will also work fine.

EDIT: if it is an engine that has a lot of idling time then I would use a lifter with positive oil pressure to the axle.

I believe I have a set of Crane lifters that I got from someone here. They have very little use or show very little wear. I have another set I also got here that I have no idea what make they are, but different than the others. Does anyone have a picture of there lifter that they will post ?

Thank you
Jim

Jim,

I think you bought a used set of Comp Solid Roller lifters off me a few years back.

Later Mark.

Cool those are what they are. I have been running them ever since. I just forgot where/who I got them from. So now what is what.

Thank you

I have about 3 actual race hours on them. They are going in an engine,513 iron head, again for the race of the season. My other Crane lifters are going in my 513 with Blue Thunders.

Will Comp go through and freshen them up ?

I'm pretty sure Charlie Evans told me Comp can rebuild them for you.

Just be aware ... part of rebuilding them is magnaflux checking them for cracks. Usually one or more are cracked somewhere which they won't rebuild so, you may get back 13 or so; not a whole set.
