Ford techs need help, 2001 f150 brake issue ?
My 01 2x2 longbed f150 with the 5.4 has 193000 on it now it still runs great but last summer when i would sit with the air cranking even for 10 minutes it would start to freeze up the brakes, and last year i had the passenger side front smoke the pads and had to pull over and get a ride home, the next day i changed the caliper and its been fine but friday i could feel it binding again (without any air on) and figured it was the driver side this time ,but no it was the pass side again hot as hell. And running the air thing i have no clue why it would apply the brakes, i thought maybe its from higher underhood temps messing with the master cylinder or a brake valve somewhere ? any ideas or anybody heard of this before ?

Why do you say this? I'm having kinda of the same problem with our shop truck (98 Dakota). I put new rotors and pads, left caliper and left front wheel bearing hub assy (all OEM stuff) on last week. Had to do a road trip for work in it yesterday. Caught a few red lights before I got back to the shop and smelled brakes. When I got out the left front was smoking. No signs of brake drag. Took it apart, didn't see anything wrong, cleaned things up, put it back together. Ran it for 10 miles this morning , everything was fine. Just got back from another 2 hr work road trip again. No problem at all. I don't get it...maybe a fluke

Sometimes those hoses can start coming apart inside and won't let the pressure release or the particles stop up the caliper.

I have had my 86 F150 do the same thing I replaced cals and pad work great for about 3 or 4 weeks and started locking up again replaced both rubber hoses and have not had any trouble with them. One of my rubber lines was coming apart on the inside and was not releasing all the pressure I cut it into to see what was happening and found the inside clasped.I would replace both line at the same time as they are the same age most of the time. The line cost is higher or mine cost more than my cals did.

K thanks for the info i'll replace the hoses when i change the driver side caliper, but i wonder why running the air makes it worse ? hotter underhood temps maybe swelling up the hoses ?

Thanks guys
it was the hoses like you guys said i was still convinced it can't be brake hoses but i finally swapped them and presto that was it end of problem other than i killed my passenger side rotor from cookin it and now its warped as shit, but its time for new rotors anyway with 195,000 plus miles on it.
