too much carb?
A friend of mine just picked up a mustang fox with a built 351C motor in it. It consist of an Eagle rotating assembly(stock stroke) some cast early small chamber heads witout porting, 12.81 compression, 633lift roller camshaft, funnel web intake with a 4150-1050cfm carb. He spins it to 8800 rpm. Problem is the last time the guy raced it it dropped some oil pressure and he heard a knock so he shut it down. Now my freind owns it and Im taking the motor out today to see what happend. upon draining the oil I can really smell the gas in the oil and wondering if the carb is too big and its washing the bearings out of it. I will have it out today and tore down to see what the damage is. Whatcha think, carb to big for this combo?

NOT TOO big at all, probaly too long between oil changes, or like this other guy i know used to pump the carb about 5 times each time he started it, he hurt it twice before he learned

Some people never learn. Stupidity is hard to "fix".

.You can lean one out and burn a piston lean with a 1050 domi and flood one rich with a 500 2 barrel. Its all about the air fuel ratio.
A good high HP 351 C can run a 1050 dom no problem (if tuned right).

Re: too much carb?
got the motor apart and found spun rod bearing on #7. car has sat since last summer. there was a thick white/yellow residue all along the oil pan bottom and like I said the engine REALLY smells of fuel. some of the cylinders are scuffed but piston skirts look pretty good. I ran a rigid hone down through 1 of the cylinders and there is alot of low spots so thinkin its going to need bored as well as fix crank and rod. quite a bit of carbon build up on the pistons and the top ridge of the cylinders about a 1/4 inch down. He is gunna drop the block rods and pistons off tomarrow at machine shop and have it all cked out. It looks to me like he got it hot, on a couple of the pistons i could see some discloloring like blue and pink as if you were looking at the outer ring of a weld or something. Could be why the cylinders were scuffed also. Hope to have some info this week. The guy says he always went back and fourth with the jetting when he would race it verses driving on the street.
