oil weight vs. bearing clearences ? Empty oil weight vs. bearing clearences ?

Post  63boxtop September 25th 2009, 11:44 am

i currently run valvoline vr1 20-50 in my 557
cold psi is 75
hot idle is 22
wot hot is about 65
kaase oil pump with milodon pan and block oiling mods from paul kanes website
passenger lifter bores bushed and x-over restricted

would going to the straight 50wt oil improve these, even though there is really nothing wrong with them? what are the pro's and cons?

bearing clearences are .003 on mains and rods

thanks
rick

I.M.O. the 50wt would not be the thing to have for cold start ups . 65 psi hot w.o.t. should be enought .

oil weight vs. bearing clearences ? Empty Speaking of 50W!

Post  LivermoreDaveJr September 27th 2009, 4:11 pm

As I was pouring the contents of a can of baby formula, that had been kept in the refrigerator, into a bottle for mixing about 0300 hrs. this morning I was thinking. What the hell were we thinking during the days of STP! I always added a can of STP with a quality brand of motor oil in the old hot rods I had during oil changes. I guess Andy was a hell of a salesman. I'm don't think I'm any smarter than the STP days now. However I do like thinner oils in my engines today. On another note, what the hell is sane with a guy mixing baby formula and comparing it to STP at three in the morning? Rolling Eyes

To all, have a good day!
Dave.
