7.3L Powerstroke filter?
Has anyone seen any issues with oil filter collapse on the 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel? I changed the oil in mine last week. Only 70K miles on it. I used a Motorcraft FL1995 filter. Same as always. I noticed today when I started it, a warning light stayed on for a few seconds until I slightly reved the engine. This warning light is always on when turning the switch to start. It's a combination light with two icons. An oil can and thermometer. The oil pressure gauge read fine. A little above 1/2 the scale. I know the gauge is not real. It's just controlled by a switch. You have oil pressure or you don't. The warning light stayed on with a cold or hot engine for those few seconds.
I have seen cheaper car filters collapse with an oil pressure drop and the return to normal when a new filter was installed. Anyone seen or head of this issue with a 7.3L or Motorcraft filter?
The only other change is that I switched to Shell Rotella 15W40 oil. I had run Chevron Delo 400 15W40 until now.
Thanks

I have not had any problems with the motorcraft filter or heard of any around here. That icon deal you are talking about has always stayed on mine just for a second , but I have friends with the same model that does not ?

I switched over to a Baldwin filter and the oil pressure went up a little bit and the filter stopped loosening up. I've always bought Motorcraft stuff, but my local parts house only had Baldwin, so I tried it. I won't go back now. I know the "gauge" went up. I know it's not the oil, but the filter. I tried Shell for a while, but went back to Delo. Mine reads about 3/4 of the scale.

I have never had that happen on mine, but I know my local NAPA stopped carrying the motorcraft filters for a while because they had some issues. I went to a NAPA gold filter at that point and like it so I still use it.

never seen an isue with the motorcraft filters or any other for that matter on the 7.3.
The lights always take a while to go out, they all do. The press switch is on top of the hpop res., it has to fill the little air gap at the top, then the pcm has to turn the light out.
I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: 7.3L Powerstroke filter?
I worked on a few 7.3's that did the same thing but the owners just let it idle until it quit, the oil pump was bad and "sucking" air,the motor would run until the oil resevoir was empty. It was a pain to find because when the trucks got towed in by the wrecker with the rear tires off the ground it was at enough of an angle for the oil in the pan to fill up the oil pump so when they towed it into the shop it would start with just a little cranking and everything would be ok.I guess to find out,the next time it does it just let it idle and see what happens, the light will either go out or the truck will quit after 10 seconds or so,if it quits, take the plug out of the top of the resevoir and stick a piece of wire down in the hole and see what the oil level is,it should be just below the top. hope this helps
