Be better on a larger engine. Most of the gain will be at higher RPMs. Converter and gear would help. Some bowl blending and clean up will help too. Heads will need to be set up for your cam and you will have to check the piston to valve clearance.

YES ... if the cam is small enough for the intake valves to radially clear the piston intake notches, you will increase your compression ratio around a point and a half if you have 73 heads now.

In a heavy vehical and small CID the ported C9's will go better, they have alot better port velocity.

Re: scj iron heads
if you have the C9's bolt them on the 429...... Use the Iron CJ's for a stroker they will do better on that.

Got confused with your other post though you had C9's on it. Given what you are doing even with a 429 the iron CJ's be worth it. The CR boost will help that cam a lot. Put a 3,500 stall converter in it, and a Victor intake and let it eat. Just make sure you get a good transmission cooler on there.

Re: scj iron heads
For the SCJ's to work better than the C9's your going to need to cam and converter it to work with the SCJ's air flow.
Get the combo off a (little) and it will perform as good as the C9's, way off it will be a pig, but get it right and it will make big power.
But to get the engine in the rpm range the heads want to be in at 429 cubic inch some intake runner length change will be needed.
