power brake booster
I have a 67 Ford drag truck, with a big block and c-6. It has a 9in. booster on it now, and i need more clearance between it and the valve cover. Does anyone know of a smaller booster that will bolt up to the factory bracket. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: power brake booster
why don't you just remove the booster all together?
My 67 f100 has never had pb and has stopped fine from 127mph runs....

Agreed. Unless you feel you absolutely have to have it, I'd just ditch it altogether. That was one of the first things I took off of my '86, and it stops pretty well from just less than 140 mph on a 1/4 mile run. It DOES need rear discs though...

Did you guys JUST put a manual Mc on or did you do something to the proportioning valve as well?

Re: power brake booster
the bore size of the mc has a lot to do w overall brake pressure and pedal feel.
Mine never had pb so I cant say w certainty how effective just taking the booster off would be but Id assume the pedal would prob be quite firm. Id just get a reman master from a non pb f100 w a smaller bore size. ( most likely 1") and go racing.
Does your truck already have disk brakes on the front?

Re: power brake booster
all i did was un bolt my MC from the booster then i un bolted the booster from the firewall, then bolted the mc back to the firewall using i believe the bottom bolt holes for the booster and cut down the brake rod untill it was just enough to let off the mc but not enough to fall out of it

I would like to keep a booster. Does anyone know if there is one off a mustang that would work? what about a aftermarket one?
Thanks

I guess you are going to have to take some measurements and hit the auto wreckers. Have you tried the FTE forum? I am sure someone there would know.

I think 9 inch is about as small as your gonna get, hydroboost is another option.

I never had to do anything with the proportioning valve for my truck.. The only thing I had to do was I bought a manual master from the parts store, and change the length of the pushrod to get the right stroke on the pedal. If all you're doing is drag racing, there really is no need to want or keep the booster...

Re: power brake booster
If you end up going with a small street rod style booster make sure you get a dual diaphragm unit. The singles do not offer much help at all.

Re: power brake booster
When I installed the disc brakes on the front of my 69 f100 I used everything off a 74 f100 and left the booster off and put the manual master on I was running a 351c and did not have much vacume so I left it off like has been said it stops fine. But if you going the put a p/b on iy look for a f150 that came with the 460 in it and see what they have on them but I am sure they was 9'' to.
