My little 14:1 357 went 8200 a bunch of times and the bearings looked good upon teardown before I sold it. Just a early 70's block and crank. Paid attention to the machine work, clearances, balancing and the line bore and kept a good tune on it. I didn't feel comfortable with the 2 bolt caps on it though...
A very important point. Well said.

Re: SBF question ?
I guess we were just lucky all those years we ran the 414........... 6.20 @ 3000 lb. stock block 4 inch crank .060 over. shifting @ 7500+
I figured it was around 650 to 700 hp. We also run Cleveland blocks at that hp level too with no problems.

One thing I don't like is your block is at .040" over. I'd want a sonic check before putting any more money in it to see just what the wall thinkness is.
I'd agree the tune up matters and you likely can make it live if you are careful, but still is a crap shoot IMO.
Yes I have looked at the cost of using my block versus buying a block stengths and weaknesses too.
I will be losing money on the block if I sale it for what I am asking : ! I have it on here for sale and no one has touched ! I have it on several sights no call txt ect. No budget to buy a 1200.00 block plus shipping ! 500 is what I will have in this block putting the 4 bolt caps on line boring and screw in freeze and oil galley plugs. I just sold my main girdle and studs off of it so that puts me 300 in block 500 in caps, and plugs for a total of 800 versus 1200 plus shipping. The block has been sonic checked and is ready to go less main caps
Thinking about trying it if the block doesn't sale ! I think I am going to use these main caps
