The Pokey Pony is on life support

I went for one last run last night.I had a grudge race last night at Lasiter mtn.Things went smooth out of the trailor went 5.53 @ 127 on a 175 shot on the deg. set timer The guy I was supposed to run made pass after pass but was not in the ball park.Said he broke .George Howard came over and ask if I would run someone else ther was a big crowd and he wanted a race.2 out of 3 deal and I get paid either way.I agereed I just wanted to run my car.First pass I went 5.60.I shut it off when he came around me at about 500 feet.That turned it into kind of a pissing match.We had agreed not to push any harder than 50's.He used a 350hp shot if I'm sitting here.So we tune up both stages my car stood up but I got it to set down easy by lifting just enough to turn the juice off and the race was on. My car was on the best pass it has ever made at about 500 feet it hit the rpm chip and turned dead right hit the wall head on bounced off the wall shot across the track almost hit the other wall I got it to turn.Back across it wet hit a glancing shot and climbed the barrier. It slid a ways and came off the wall.Finally stopped.When I was getting out it blazed up I pulled the fire bottle and it went right out.
The car is destroyed I'm a litte sore but not a scratch.Evey one kept asking was I ok was I ok. Kept insisting I was fine.Medics wouldn't leave me alone finally ask the what was the big deal guess I was getting a little irratated with them They brought me my helment and said look. The whole left side of my helment was cracked open. Not even a head ach!Thank's to the Good Lord and good safety equpt.
It blew a trans line.It had nice braided lines. one let go. It went 5.63@ 101.Guess I'll be looking for a car.

Damn Ward, glad your ok man! Sucks about the wreck......... have and clue what caused it?

If I do nothing else this winter to the Grande it will get a fire system now after reading this.

Strip it down, take anthing off that's useable. Sell the parts or reuse.

I think the '65 needs a new cage, new struts, new ladder bars/coil overs and the drivetrain from the Pokey Pony

agreed, I know the fox deals are plug and play but the old school car gets my vote. Trouble is the cut up chassis deal keeps you out of a lot of small tire type racing.

I popped a trans cooler line once...but was lucky enough that I only messed up the track.

Jon the trans line blew and it turned no saving it.
Not sure what I'll do but I like gurdge type racing.I'm going to get it out laer today.I'll know more more when I get it up on lift.

Sorry about the bad luck Ward, but am glad to hear you are ok! I had a similar incident in 2010 and after getting the frame straightened and having a new core support welded it's finally getting close to being back on the road.

If there was a good feeling about this it was when I got ot and it blazed up,just pulling a handle and it went out.I'm not sure if I could have got back in and got the hand held fire ext. It sucked to wreck I would have been awful to stand there and watch it burn to the ground.Would have been the same deal if I was unable to get out. It was a christmas present from my wife. Did I mention how much I love my wife !!! She's pretty and smart to. Every car I race will have one in it!!!

We got it out out of the trailor yesterday.It is tore up bad but I think it may be fixable.Most of the damage ilimited to the right side and more important in front of the shock towers. It did push the strut thru the top of the strut tower.K member and A arms and rack are done.both motor plates are bent .Of coarse the Rad. and fan are gone.There is alot fr damage to the frame connecters fror where it got on top of the wall and slid.one frt rim and both back ones are ruined Drive shaft will have to be replaced it got into the bolts on the drive shaft loop. Any way I have frame guy coming to look at it later this week to see if it will be cost effective to fix it replace it. The motor started and ran fine good oil pressure ect Trans seems to be ok couldn't do mort than put it in gear
If I fix it I'll be looking for some parts Will give a shout when I know what is going on.Thank's for then support.

Man, wish I could help. About the only thing I have to offer is an 77 F250 driveshaft I had shortened for my car.Stock C-6 yoke.I can get measurements if needed.

Glad you are ok Ward. Damage to the car sure sucks, but at least you are ok. I guess the helmet hit the cage inside the car? Sounds like you are, indeed, very lucky. I know after my accident though, some pains didn't start till a day or two after.
