need shock tower measurements/ Kaase
I'm not sure of the width between the shock towers on different 65-71 Ford performance cars. Is a 65 Mustang narrower than a 68? Which cars are the same, like Mustangs vs. Fairlanes, etc. How about 71 Torinos and Cyclones? We're asked this all the time, and I know the Boss-9 won't fit in any of them stock, but we still need measurements, width at the shock towers, about header and valve cover height.
Thanks, Kaase

the 64,65,66 mustangs are small.the 67,68,69,70 have more room.the trans tunnel in 67-68 are a little small vs the 69-70. 71-73 have lots of room for a 460. the cougars are same as mustangs and i "think" the torino is too.

Great topic with the potential to gather some very good information being winter is setting in and engines will be coming out for a freshening. could make for a stickey with engine bay measurements for all the popular BB swap candidates.

don't know about 67/68 Mustangs but the only big block 69/70 have a reinforcement wrap around plate on the shock tower/upper A arm level . making them narrower

Jon
I know for sure the 64 1/2-66 mustangs are 2 " narrower per side the those of the the 67-68. The 69-70 are wider yet and of course the 71-73 being the widest of them all. I have my 66 Mustang in the Garage and if you tell me exactly where you want the measurement I'll do my best to see if I can find that with the motor still in the car. For years I have wanted to remove the shock towers for a Mustang II front end but other thing have taken priority over that for 25 years.

I have a 70 with the wrap around plate but it came with a 302,3 spd. I'm trying to get a pic up with all the measurements on it. Just been a little crazy around work lately.....Mine is a late 70 model if they made a change midyear. I know they did with the windows(bolt in vs. glue in).res0rli9 wrote:DanH wrote:don't know about 67/68 Mustangs but the only big block 69/70 have a reinforcement wrap around plate on the shock tower/upper A arm level . making them narrower

Blake sorry to about your mom hope all goes well.
If you guys don't mind double check me on my numbers.
What I have on the two 66 mustangs we are working on at school measerments are 22" 9/16. This measurement was taken in the center of the shock tower where the upper control arm bolts come thru.
68 Torino measured the same way came up with 25".
