Shock tower question
Cars: 66-67 Fairlane 67-70 Mustang 68-69 Fairlane/Torino
How many of you guys with the 385 series engines swaps in these cars did this without out the shock towers cut back? Do you have any regrets or special insider info on going this route?
Tim

Re: Shock tower question
the center plugs are fun! i learned to like the plug socket that used an open end wrench and a piece of 3/8 fuel line to put the plugs in.

Re: Shock tower question
The header tubes that turn straight down right at the exhaust port are a great horsepower killer if you're trying to keep performance at a safe level.

Re: Shock tower question
The '69 Mach 1 I did also got a rack & pinion rear steer conversion. The right side tie rod posed a little challenge...2 primary tubes went above it, 2 went below. Individual tubes, bolt on collectors...also caused hyper-extension of my vocabulary.

Re: Shock tower question
Yep everthing is tight.. Not only the headers but the drivers side valve cover is all over the master cylinder. Hooker makes a set of headers for it though.

shock tower info
My car had the towers in tact with the 466 but when I rebuilt the engine I cut them and I changed my master cylinder to dual and put the pedal about 1" to the left of the steering column. Here is the link to the article I used to attack the towers and a link to my build with pics. I apologize if I'm not supposed to post links from the other ford site, just wanted to share some info.
I'm glad I did the cut it makes things a lot easier.

Link to my build with pics of before and after the cut. http://www.460ford.com/forum/showthread.php?t=160051
I hope this is helpful
