Re: motor combo ...wondering hp and if it could get me into the mid to low 9s
There are several of us on here running low nines to high eights with 534 - 562 inch engines @ 850 hp and less car weight at 3000 - 3200 lb's 4.6 bore x 4.3 stroke = 572 nice combo with the P-51's .
I have seen two 557 engines make 900 and 905 hp with out of the box Kasse's and flat top pistons. These were with stock blocks and 4 bolt aftermarket caps. 4.440 bore and 4.5 crank.

and some doing it with smaller motors and smaller heads.............
If the p51 are ported, and that car failrly light , It would be tough to go 9's...............have to slow it up some to get there............

Re: motor combo ...wondering hp and if it could get me into the mid to low 9s
A smaller bore seems not to hurt the P-51's like it does on other heads. (valves moved toward center of bore more). Kasse makes good power with them on a.030 bore stock stroke deal. Take a look at Charlie and D Free's EMC engine.
Aftermarket block is a good investment, I wouldn't bore it to big to start, as I don't think it's needed to accomplish your goals. Then you would have several overbores left for later on.
Everyone has their own idea of whats the best bore stroke combo. You can do what your wanting with a 521 cid and 13:1 with the P-51's if everything is right, ( Jon is doing it with 528 inches and a set of ported TFS Streets). I ran 5.70 flat with a 557 and ported TFS Streets @ 124 mph 3000lb, that should be about a 8.90 at a buck fifty throught the 1/4. And you can do it with P-51's on a 605 and be drunk
