whats the largest bore for a D1 block? Empty whats the largest bore for a D1 block?

Post  2fox January 17th 2013, 11:51 pm

I just tore this engine down today.it's. .060 over right now it sat with water in it 2 cylinders are pretty bad.
I know its.not.going to clean up with. 020 more.thousands for a.4.440 bore.
what.the next size.up piston over size? It looks as of it will need at least another. 40/50 thousands it clean it up.that about .020 to.025 on each side of.the bore.
I know it wont be enough meat for a 4.500 bore.I don't want to buy a 2000/2500 dollar block
also.what's the min.for wall.clearance thickness? I will hard block this.engine up to the water pump.holes.in the block.also.going to have A 4.500 or.4.300 stroked.crank.with nitrous 175-250 Max
Heads undecided.but will be.alum.
thanks.

Of.not.plan.B.is.my C9.block.its.STD.bore.and will take a..030.over bore easy the block. Will need to be shaved at least ..015 to. 020 to clean.the.deck up. But don't want the piston out of the hole any.

Going. In tubbed ladder bar 86.LX.Notch back with 14x32's
want 10.0's on motor is it possible to run that time and.with the.250 shot on of.should it.get.me into the.8's.
car.is.lightweight no bumper supports and took.another.130 lbs.out of of.already.

Sorry so long and.confusing. think I got Dyslexia. Thanks

The bore you have is all I would do without sonic check. Next bore size that is available for .050 past your 4.420 is of course 4.470. Rings are available for 4.470 bore. It is highly unlikely your block could be bored to that and not be junk. So to answer your question... you probably have little more than scrap iron in your current block.

no don't.tell me its.junk Even with Hard Block filled. It will still be not.safe.Even with.sonic checking?

If not.I.got.the.other.STD.bore.C9.block. the.front.2.main caps.look.sort of.brownish on the bottom caps it.don't look.like.the brgs spun it.was.a.bare.block and still had 11/68 date on them.
?

the D1.block had.2/84 brgs. In it.

I paid 350 bucks for.the C9bare block and the complete D1 block.

That block is a dime a dozen in my area, and yes it is junk. Use the C9 block.

OK. Fellows. So.with the C 9.block.what should I bore it the bare minimum for.strength? I want.to stroke it. What best. For piston strength? 4.300 or.4.500. Or do they. Make a Destroked kit.? For under 400 cubes. For.a.high. revving motor? Thanks D1 going to.junk.the.block.
crank.and.rods.are.okay might get.cash off.are.M.Shop.for them.

The.D3.heads junk them to right
not.worth.selling.correct.

imo,on any stock block,.060 is the most w/o sonic check. Most will go .080 and very few will go much higher. In a racing application .080 needs hard blocked imo to stablize the cylinders.

If it will clean up at .030 over, that is enough. The more material left for cylinder wall thickness the better. You will have another over bore later on down the road this way also. You can custom make any combo that you want, but losing cubes for any reason is never the way to go with a big block of any kind. Big blocks are all about big cubes and big torque. I've seen a lot of 600" engines spinning ove 7500 with no trouble at all.

Sonic check them ALL; none are inherently thicker than another ... .090" is the thinnest you want to be, even when it is "block filled" all the way up to the water pump holes.

Very few blocks will go 4.500" a few more will go 4.470 and most will go 4.440"

As Rob said, use a D9TE block unless you need the flat main webbing for installing 4 bolt caps.
