supervel45 wrote:Thanks for sharing the info and clarifing it for me Randy. Any thoughts on the 3.74" stroke Crankshaft. I know it was a spare parts engine, but I found that bore stroke combination interesting. I doubt it changed the powerband more than 100rpm's over a stock 3.86" stock crank? Glad you got some dyno time in.
I had that crankshaft here from using it in a previous Engine Masters engine where I needed THAT stroke, (offset ground 429 production crankshaft), to make that engine a certain cubic inch.
With a 4.470" bore, that stroke gets it barely under 470 cubic inches.

This is very interesting! I know first hand how hard it is to get ahold of a set of DOOE heads. If you ever decide to start producing these heads I know for sure there is alot of guys That i run with that would simply gobble a set up, including myself. Good Luck and keep us up to date.

Re: Improved IRON replacement CJ head...?
I have been asked several times by many people either personally, phone calls, through emails or Personal Messaging to explain the deciding factors as to why this particular parts combination was chosen for this engine.
There was NO scientific reasoning behind any of it. It was literally built with left over parts I had around here.
1. The pistons and block were 14cc dished pistons with three different intake valve notches which I used in a previous 434 cubic inch Engine Masters entry where I compared some head types.
2. The crankshaft was an offset ground to 3.740" stroke, 429 production crankshaft from another Engine Masters entry of 470 cubic inches.
3. The 6.535" connecting rods were take outs from a B.B. Chevy bracket engine.
4. The hydraulic camshaft and lifters were Lunati brand and were a take-out from a customer Cobra Kit Car engine.
(292/301@.006" - 249/256@.050" - .631"/.626" valve lift - 107 separation; +2 on 105 intake centerline)
5. The TFS intake manifold was left over from testing of another Engine Masters 438 entry.
6. The oil pan was a rear sump, production 4x4 truck pan.
I milled the block deck about .140" just to make all the parts able to fit with one another and milled that intake manifold to match so I wouldn't need to mill those cylinder head intake surfaces.
