Max cubic inches for a stock BBC  Empty Max cubic inches for a stock BBC

Had a few brewskis with a couple of BBChevy guys, both long time friends. They said that the stock block BBC would handle 572 cubic inches, I said I thought that you have to have an after market block. I've been to the High Flow Dynamics site more than once to compare the difference between BBF and BBC, but need some more 'ammunition' for future discussions.

I don't believe you're gonna get 572" into a production 9.8" block. I think they're yanking your unit.

496 is about the max on a stock block without major work then maybe 509 with a huge stroke and if the cylinder walls are thick enough, but most will be limited to the 496.

.125" on a 454 is around 481-3...... we never went above that...
496 is the max, but that is really pushing it...

I have this battle all the time with the chevy guy's

Thanks a lot guys. I've known these two since the early 70's and they are very good friends. They respect Fords and never 'run' on them, but they are still Chevy guys. I just want to know a little of what I am talking about when we get together Cool .

ask him to Prove it ! and them watch him sweat, Cuz he can't do it....there are some very few and far in between instances that you could accidentally find one of those blocks that can go .125 over but those are Far Far in between finds...

572 as everyone has said is NOT going to happen with a stock block BBC, but the good news is a 572 is possible with a stock block BBF. Just watch them chebby guys turn Ford blue with envy. Laughing

I have built some 572 Chevrolet engines with a stock production tall deck truck block.
4.350" bore and 4.810" stroke. They could go bigger to 4.375" bore on some blocks.
It certainly is not a common build.

Maximum regular 9.8" deck = 527 cubic inches. 4.375" x 4.375"
Much more with a 502 short deck truck block. (stock production bore = 4.466").

That bore will go to 4.530" however, no more than a 4.375" stroke which is a 565.

You can strech the bore to 4.560" if you fill it to the water pump holes. Then it is, (you guessed it), 572 cubic inches.

I hear a lot of Ford guys exclaim "they just don't know Fords" when talking about most Chevy guys but, it appears here that a bunch of Ford guys don't know Chevy's either. Shocked
