Wood-fired boilers/ hot water-heat
Well Ive had it!!!
Finally turned on my furnace. Thought my good buds here might have some build- info/etc on just making the boilers. I have all access to the other stuff. Not gonna pay the crazy prices for one though.
My house is five years old, and tight as heck. $600+ bucks every 2months for propane is just robbrery to me.....

wow, i thought we had it bad @ 300/month for natural gas.
Oil furnace would even be cheaper. And they make a nice heat.
Wood is a PITA. but..cheap.

My wood will be free. . Plus I can run it in my shop, which will be next to the boiler. Just tired of takin it in my Azz when it comes to fuel prices.

Al, we don't have the cold here that you guy's have, but a neighbor put in a insert, that goes in the fireplace and ties in to the central duct work and heats his whole house! and it's 99% efficient. It has a catalytic converter built in, so you get all the heat from your wood. I called him and he said it was manufactured by Consolidated Dutchwest. I've been there when it was in the 20's and he'd have to open a window or door because it would get too warm in the house. 2500 sq. feet Just trying to help!!Al Martin wrote:prosandguy wrote:Al, my boss did his 2 winters ago, he said it paid for itself after the first year, he also has "free" wood. Thanks ralph,
Only problem is I dont have a chimney. Just a 2inch section of PVC. Plus I dont want to run any big stove pipes either.
This system uses a hotwater coil in my ductwork. Then use the furnace as a air-handler. Cool setup.
Thanks again.

Re: Wood-fired boilers/ hot water-heat
I was looking into this too Al,
I looked at a bunch of web sites and found quite a few different concepts in firebox/boiler design. Their all low pressure boilers so there safe.

http://www.econowaterstove.com/
http://www.wdheat.com/
http://www.thewood-doctor.com/index.html

I'm sure a clever guy like you could come up with a good design from these!!
I have heard of folks just using a car radiator for the heat exchanger in the house or shop.

Re: Wood-fired boilers/ hot water-heat
Al I'm getting ready to install one real soon.
The boiler I have was meant to be indoors so I'm going to build a shed out back for it.
I made my own insulated pex lines that are going inside 8" pvc pipe about 5ft underground. The boiler will be 75 ft from the house.
I need to get my butt in gear it's getting cold.
The total cost for my deal is somewhere around $2000 and the boiler was free.
Here's a site with lots of info.
