Re: Finally getting the Ranger body on the chassis
Got some more work done
Bedside skins off
And framed
Framework built and bedsides hung
Hood support cut off
Front clip mocked up
And framework to hold it together built. I made the framework so that the fenders and hood bolt to it, so if I bend or break one, I can just unbolt it and replace it.

Looking good.
I am a little jealous though with that huge shop. I am thankful I even have a shop, but at 24x24, it can get small quick!

That side of the shop where the mad fab skills come out is 60x60 and there is a lot of wasted space. I wish I could just ditch the crap, but my father in law would take serious offense.

Rob my hood on my 2000 Ranger might be 10lb I had thought about getting a fiberglass hood but they are no way a fiberglass would be as light as the factory hood. I have had 2 other ranger and the factory hoods was heavy for their size 1 was a 86 and the other 1 was a 88.When I got my 2000 and started stripping it down I could not beleive how light the hood was.

Re: Finally getting the Ranger body on the chassis
Got the body work all done. The front clip can be disassembled completely with 12 bolts so I can replace any body part with ease. I made the headlight covers from some aluminum diamond plate I had laying around, and had a guy give me the piece of stainless steel sheet metal for the front.
I set the engine down where it had been when the other cab was on it. With the Ranger cab being a little shorter, I could move the engine back a few more inches, and I'm playing around with placement right now. You can't see it, but Keith Fulp's mid plate is in there. I ended up cutting a little off of both sides to get it between the frame rails, but I was expecting it. I had the engine off set to the passenger side about 1.5" before, which is where it was with the factory mounts. I am now playing around with trying to get it centered in the chassis. If there is no front driveshaft interference, it will stay there. I also realized that my chassis is a little off as far as level in the front. Not sure how that happened before, but it's an easy fix by cutting off my shock mount on the drivers side and moving it down 1".
I got my steering column in, and the cage is done. Seat is bolted down, and interior is almost complete. I am hoping that by the end of the week it will be warm enough to get the paint on it. Talked to the paint man at church this morning, and he said temps will be good toward the end of the week. I should be done with this swap hopefully by the end of the month and be ready for racing. Then it's off to finishing the living quarters in the trailer.

Come on out again Mike, you're always welcome, and I've got a bed with your name on it if you want it. I was amazed at how easy it was to do this Ranger.

Re: Finally getting the Ranger body on the chassis
Got a little more work done, but nothing that has eye appeal lately. I finished the wiring, and plumbing, new fuel cell mounted, and now have the hood cut out.

Re: Finally getting the Ranger body on the chassis
No paint yet . Going to probably chop off that frame, and figure out how to remount the bumper. I've been busy working on fence, and building a couple 9" rears for some guys. The one I just did was a 58" wide deal for a 34 Plymouth project a guy is doing. Next one is going under a tube chassis car. We will be planting soon too, so from now on out, it's going to be slow going on racing projects .

Re: Finally getting the Ranger body on the chassis
I hear ya. progress on mine will slow down pretty soon as I've got spring yard work and garden to do then motorcycling and bicycling season begins. But, progress WILL continue.
Re: Finally getting the Ranger body on the chassis
Put in the data logger today, quick simple install, and loads of info to come from that little jewel. Thanks Phillip. Hope to see the trans here pretty soon too, and then it's time to make driveshafts, fill up the fluids, and drive it out of the shop.
