Would like some expert input on pushrod length WITH PICS!!
I am setting up a 545 with A429 heads, Dove MFG. 1.73 rockers, and comp Hyd. flat tappet cam, 274/286 adv. .562/.565 lift. What I have done is bolt the head to the engine, asemble one cylinder with Factory pushrods, and lifters that I shimmed up to 0.040" to simulate proper lifter preload, then I tightened the rocker till it was solid against the lifter (should have been about 0.040", It was about 1/2 turn in after contact to the lifter plunger) I marked the valve stem with a sharpie and went for it, turned the engine over a few time and took pictures. Here they are. I would like to see what you guys think before I order any pushrods.

Just from the photos ... I would say that is not correct and it can't to the point of being correct with that selection of parts.
The spring and retainer look to be too close to the bottom of the rocker arm and it also appears to need a slightly shorter pushrod which can't happen because the rocker goes even closer to the spring/retainer.
If the engine has a solid flat tappet or solid roller lifter then a simple lash cap may solve the problems; can't use lash caps with a hydraulic lifter engine.
Changing retainers and accompanying springs would be necessary or using -.050" locks somehow.

thanks randy. I had no idea. I bought this stuff as a package deal. It might be better to buy some rockers that are right instead?? I was ready to assemble but if that is a serious issue, I will have to go another direction.

Thanks to bruno as well. Is there anything I can do from here other than start over? What do you typically look for for clearances between the valve spring retainer and the rocker? Can I check this and verify it?
