took my car to track sat night. made three 1/8 mile passes total number of passes on freshen up 15 including these three runs
Went to make a fourth pass . did burn out, pulled to line and stabbed throttle on pro tree and car didn't even lift front end. massive slipping. I tried to idle down the track and barely made it back to pits. checked fluid level. it was fine. had that smell of tranny fluid death. I tried to pull it on trailer with no luck. Got home and was able to back car into shop. reverse was very jerky.
I pulled pan today and had massive amount of clutch dust in pan and fluid smelled burnt. I also felt like what seamed to be little pcs of rubber seal.
no metal, no chunks ect.

the car had sat up from nov till now .last outing 1.30-1.31-1.32 60 ft

any ideas what it is?

forward clutch gone, I just went through one last week like this...... it was a mess!

your gonna pull it out and have it gone through no doubt about it.

With that few runs on it , i'd be putting a pressure gauge on there after it is freshened . The forwards with good line pressure usually last nicely.

for sure dont just throw clutches back in, there is some sort of a pressure issue or leak someplace.

Longshot, but could be one of the sealing rings on the pump stator displaced, gone. Happened to me once.

With all the C-4 shooting the craps I wonder why people still try using them behind Big blocks, seems like a lot of trouble for nothing...for the few lbs you save and all the headaches, seems like a c-6 would be better and alot less headaches...

I'd have to agree..... But would rather just run a Glide...... Cheap Parts and they are everywhere.

X2. Simple in design. Tough as a boiled owl when built right...and 2 gears is plenty for me.

Some people run a c4 for various different reasons money, traded for it ,or already had it ,don't know any better, don't want to run anything else ect. the list of reasons are a mile long and a mile wide for people doing what they do!

I am one of those stubborn $ob'$! I am running my Heavy trw pistons with small dome 466 with 150 shot nos with a c4 in a 3400lb ( if not heavier ) 64 fairlane. My purpose for doing this is to see how many passes , how much weight, and how much hp and torque I can put to the c4 before it breaks and the doing the same thing with the c6.

To the op at this time if your having to work on the trans a lot then you going to be better off switching to a C6 or Glide as the others have stated and for the reasons they have stated as well.

I`ve lost count on how many nine second passes I have on my home built c-4 with no issues. They just work for me,I got nothing against glides except they are real boring to watch in a car as fast as mine.

I agree and some others do too ! The long and short is it makes it easier for some to just put a c6 and most of the time a glide in ! got any pics of the vega?
