c-460 Heads - Page 2 Empty c-heads

Post  steve1071 August 10th 2009, 10:34 am

I have 2 c-head motors both 598 ish and Im fairly happy with durability and power ..The min bore I have used was 4.530 and with one set of heads you could see where the valve seemed to touch the cly, but the other head was not ?? If you have any ques I would be more than happy to help.. right now I am looking at a diferent cly head option..

Im a newb on here but i have had and still race many c head engines. You can run them on a stock block with a 4.440 bore with smaller ex. valves. I had a 496 stock block, c-460, 2.300---1.800 valves heads, 2 foggers and it ran 7.90 at 180 on little 28+10.5 tires at 3000 lbs no problems.

Nick when collecting parts over a period of time, must know what the final build will be. example small bore-- valve size , cam lift and valve spings to be used = valve oal. so have a plan . Dan (2slow)

I would go with a 598 with those heads and let Charlie have at them. He gets 500 cfm out of them with his program. We had a set on our 665 and it made around 1250 hp and was very reliable. A buddy of mine has a 610 cubic inch with the C heads and makes around 1100 on the motor with a cast intake and 1 carb.
