Strut Rod Bushings
Any of you guys running stock front suspensions on the older cars ever use the poly bushings on the strut rods?

Re: Strut Rod Bushings
I have heard horror stories of early model Mustangs and Ford/Mercury intermediates of the 70's(Torinos, Montegos, Rancheros and etc) that have had strut rods break because of the poly bushings lack of "give" causing too much stress on the factory strut rods. I originally had poly bushings, but changed back to rubber bushings on my Ranchero and didn't notice much (or any) difference between the two handling-wise.

I tried them on my comets before .It seems to me that I felt every little bump in the road .I replaced them with rubber and couldnt tell any difference in handling .Doug

The Torino won't see any street time.. Has anyone used the poly stuff on a race care?

Dave, are you going to use stock rubber bushings? Anybody make a bearing kit for these things? My front suspension is shot.

I have them on mine. It sees just track use. No problem and never noticed a difference. I just needed to replace the originals.

Zrob there is a couple places to buy the rollerized components . They are pricey though .

I just installed street or track adjustables. Heavy duty piece. The ones for a 1968-73 mustang fit perfect on my car.

In the past I have shortened the inner steel sleeve/sleeves (a small amount) of rubber replacement front strut rod bushings to make the bushings work/feel a little tighter/stiffer.

Ok, I'll take a look at that when I tear it down.

Ran it last night. Didn't quite pick the tires off the ground but came real close. Seems real smooth. The car surprised me and tracked really straight. I didn't have it "professionally" aligned after install. I just measured the distance from the grease zerk on the bottom ball joint to the crossmember with the original strut rods. Then adjusted the new ones to the same measurement. So far so good. My junk is slow though.
Do you have a good spring compressor dave? I used the kind with ubolts that clamp onto the spring and they didn't work very good. I don't ever want to look at them again.
