Well the 460 I've found. It's a guy my brother used to log with. It's a 75-78 460 with D3VE heads. He said he wants $400 for it because it's all apart. He said it used to do something (can't remember what he said) but he figured it was the camshaft doing it so he took the ole cam out and hasn't messed with the engine since. He has started on another engine. It was in his race truck. He said it has forged pistons and thinks it's bored .40 over.

I don't know whether to get it or just keep mine and resleeve it and buy some D3VE heads.

I've had people tell me that since it has a cylinder that is sleeved to leave it alone and throw away that block.
Then I've had people tell me to resleeve it by someone who knows what they are doing and it will hold forever.

Well I could see if you had an engine with a ton of money in and you were trying to save it but you have a junk yard motor. Why you would spend money on a turd is beyond me but it is your money and your decision. People have good luck with sleeves if they are done right and that is the key right there. My first 289 had a sleeve as well as my uncles 351 was sleeved because he wanted to keep his original block but these were motors that had a bunch of $$ already in them. You don't have anything invested in yours. Heck I would have tried to return the motor saying it was fubar anyways. At least they might exchange it with another one, at least that is the way my auto wrecker works.

Well it was sold as is.

I could just sell the block for $100 and be done with it and get that $400 motor.

Got this email:
100 for all 4 of them... There shouldn't be any cracks, but I never checked for any. The heads were all removed from running motors.. They'll need to be checked out and all... I may even have a third set I'll throw in if I can find them...

---

He said he has a set of D3VE heads too. 4 sets of heads for $100.

Ok, bought soem D3VE heads for $75 and a ride to Floorduh.

Machine guys said that I don't need to do anything to the heads because they look like they already have been fixed up and the valves redone.

So now I got to figure every single part I need to complete this build. I am going to go with forged flat top pistons but what kind for a .30 bore?

Any other ideas what I should get?

Got my FPS Forged Probe pistons from Lem Evans the other day.
They are dish pistons and have a single relief valve (maybe I am right about the single relief valve). I think they are 24.4cc pistons from what the Probe website says.

I wonder how much compression this will give me?
Diggindeeper said about 8 to 2 without decking but if decking about 8 to 5.

I went to the machine shop today and gave them to the machine shop guys and I told him about decking my block and he said I won't hardly notice anything even if I deck the block.
I told him about zero decking but he said it will cost alot of money and since I am going to use this on the streets too...there would be no use to zero decking the block. He said it will be fine the way it is and that if I zero deck the block..I would have to do alot of other stuff as well such as make sure the valves ain't touching, etc, etc.

So I probably am not going to deck it or zero deck the block.
My machine guy says he doesn't know how to do it much.

Since I am not, maybe, about what will my compression ratio be then?

The D3VE heads should be in the 90s ccs.

Is that bad compression?

I'm going to be using the engine on street and bog occasionally.

Well ole Lem advised me and told me to get the dished and then on the other 460 forum, Diggindeeper said I to get them to because if I had gotten flat tops and high compression and was using pump gas...I could have problems down the road.

Yep, so I did it.

Though people told me several times to get flat tops...

Now I am stuck on whether to zero deck the block or what?

Machine guys said to not to worry about doing it but then yall are saying to do it.
I am going for what yall say but then I am kinda thinking about what the machine guys say. scratch
