thank god for tubes....
had a no prep race at the track yesterday, they were raising money for the tornado victims so what the hell.
just one of those days I guess, I get there and my generator takes a crap, I borrowed a plugin from another racer that came from Texas. This is an unload it off the trailer and go straight to first round deal, no clocks, no prep, pimp juice burnout only.
I draw Dominator in the purple dart..... you'll see this car on the discovery channel series "street outlaws" here in a couple weeks. I underestimated the bite in the starting line and left real soft, power came in and the old turd started rolling, he had issues and lifted about the same time I started drifting toward the wall.... I lifted and stabbed it again to what would be the worst tire shake Ive ever experienced.
wasnt enough to get around him though, drove back to the trailer and found this.....
i guess the tire got so distorted it caught the edge of the fender and pulled it into the tire. ill beat it out and get the flatblack spraycan back after it, good thing is these slicks were done anyway, almost 2 seasons old and at least 60 passes. I need to find something thats a tad narrower so this wont happen again.
Lem check your email.....

gonna get the smallblock car going for now, pull the progressive off the 69, get new slicks and possibly wheelie bars and let it eat this fall.

Re: thank god for tubes....
i had the same thing happen to me 3 weeks ago. I only ran an 8.90 @ only 152, so I thought I lost a plug or something. Came back to the pits and noticed the tire contacted the front of the fender well, bent out a piece, then it proceeded to slice my tire as the tire grew as I went down the track. I got real lucky also, as the tire managed to stay together.
I got the launch on video-- 240 frames per second with a go pro on a tripod. You can clearly see when the tire makes contact when you slow down the vid. My only question is why this time and not on any of the previous passes? Weird.

yeah I have no clue why it did it this time, Ive had it shake before, but never this hard. wish I had a gopro on it to see what happened. having a hard time finding a tire a tad smaller in the same brand and compound. Ive sure had good luck with these M/Ts

Tire shake is a strange bitch. Sometimes the sidewall/tread can reach out and grab at shit you would be money was out of reach.

I think you posted a vid of slow motion tire shake, and it was a real eye opener on how weird the tires get.DILLIGASDAVE wrote:Tire shake is a strange bitch. Sometimes the sidewall/tread can reach out and grab at shit you would be money was out of reach.

Re: thank god for tubes....
After big tire shake don't forget to check all the rod-ends for damage & also the diagonal link (or wishbone) to see if the shake bent/damaged it.
