Tubes & slicks
I'm thinking about putting some tubes in my slicks and have a couple questions.
Is it ok to use tubes on a wheel/slick deal with screws?
Who makes the best tube for Hoosier 29.5x10.50 slicks?
I have one tire going flat in a day and the other takes a week. Is this normal with slicks?

Have you tried coating the inside of the slicks with dish soap? A couple of coats of dish soap will help seal up the side walls. As far as screws and tubes, that what I had before removing the tubes, it worked OK.

When they were new about 2 yrs ago I coated the insides with 2 heavy coats of dish soap. I didn't have much trouble with losing air until this spring.
They only have 50 or so passes on them.

screws with tubes are a must! if the rim turns in the tire it'll take the valve stem out'a the tube and make for a bad pass.lol.put lots of babby powder in with the tubes too and make sure the little sticker inside the tire is pulled out.i did'nt think it could cut a tube but it damn sure will.

Re: Tubes & slicks
Tubes and slicks will be fine together. Simply utilize screws which length does not pass through the tire's bead. Use a GOOD tube, of heavy rubber and steel vulcanized stem. Most tire companies have them for $50 or so.

Are you sure you didn't run over something at the track causing a hole in the slick? I have never ever had to use any soap in any big Hoosiers, didn't matter if they were new/fresh or used take-off's. Hoosiers have been amazing at holding air over time.
I know 50 passes doesn't sound like much, but at 2 years old they can't be considered new/fresh by any stretch of the imagination. Depending on how any race car/truck is stored during the week, the oils in the compound & the sidewalls could be in effect "very old" after 2 years depending on conditions.
Something as simple as welding near/around slicks will age them fast from the ultraviolet rays.

with the compounds used now days those tires are considered old. spend some money on a new set and then store them correctly over the winter to extend their lives

Re: Tubes & slicks
Ok guys I took the slicks off and checked them over real good.
Both seem to be a little porous on the sidewalls, one more so than the other. The only thing I found was some real small spots that bubbled.
They are so small it takes a few minutes to see the little bubbles.
I didn't find any holes on the face of either tire.
Guess it's time to start looking for a new set.
