help wont stay running
Hey guys just went out for a spin in my truck installed a new msd ready to run and a new 750 edelbrock. Seems to run fine until it warms up then seems like it runs out of fuel. but it will fire right back up it gives just enough time to put it in gear then dies again. wondering if my timing is outta wack our my carb needs to be set

Is the carb and ignition the only thing you changed?

did you change the fuel filter it sounds like it might be stopping up or your fuel pump is on it way out. Are you running a electric or manual fuel pump. Check the carb when it dies and see if you have gas in it if it don't it's a fuel problem.

havent changed the filter. im running the edelbrock mechanical pump which isnt very old. i have pressure when it dies but 5hrs later no pressure . When it did die it was running around 80 C or 176F.

Check the filter it might be stopping up and when it shut down might be dropping enough trash off to start back up for a few sec.

Re: help wont stay running
it might be trying to vapor locking is any of the fuel line close to header or block or long rubber lines try a old timers trick put some wooden clothes pins about 4'' apart along the fuel from the pump to carb and run it the clothes pins will let the fuel cool some and help keep it from vapor locking. If that does it try rerunning the fuel line away from any heat.

Re: help wont stay running
my line runns in the frame rail then pops out and is 4" away from a header. then goes into the pump out of the pump up above the water pump and on top of the intake. fuel pump to middle of the intake is stainless 3/8 tubing the from there hose to the carb. And 1/2 ss tubing from the tank to the fuel pump. So trying to find a cooler place on a bb is gonna be fun. But i will fire it up again tomorrow and see what happens . im gonna check my floats and seats cus that thing should be holding pressure . my seats could be passing or plugged aswell on a brand new carb. now any way this could be my timing or does this sound like fuel issue.

Being that you replaced the likely ignition components and it's still dieing, and you have fuel pressure when it dies, I'd wonder if there's an air leak between the intake & the head possibly.. leaking more when it gets hot?? Or carb gasket??
I wouldn't be concerned with the fuel pressure holding while shut off - the slightest evaporation in the bowls and the float drops... pressure is gone. Remember gasoline is a liquid - it doesn't compress & "store" pressure like air

Hook up an electric fuel pump to it and try it.

X2 On the vac leak the reason I was thinking vapor locking when I had the 351c in my 69 I fought a vapor lock problem with it for weeks before finding it. It did just like you are saying yours is doing but I would have to wait a couple mins before it would fire back up. I changed dizzy, coil, ing. box and a new carb with the same results until a old timer told me about the clothes pins on the fuel line. A vacuum leak will sometimes make one act up more hot than cold.
