Boss 302 block
Considering the possibility of upsizing the 289 in my hot rod.
Already have the headers and the bolt on's.
If I buy a new boss 302 block can I bolt my Edelbrock performer RPM's on top?
Ford site says block not good for stock heads?

Re: Boss 302 block
I can only assume that a head that will except 1/2" head bolts would be the only road block, unless there is an issue with the water passages at the deck.
Re: Boss 302 block
Is it the big bore block? You can with either one but why would ya?

Yes you can pot your heads on it, need to get a set of 351W head bolts or Studs.

The reason the block is not for use with stock heads is that the exhaust side of the deck has water cooling holes like a race block and stock heads have a sculpted lower edge, exposing some of those holes. A race head gasket which is straight across the bottom, (with or without matching holes but straight), and a head which matches this is what is needed.
The Edelbrock heads MAY be straight across.
That is why Ford Racing redesigned their X303 and X305 heads; the redesign was the deck lower edge is now straight with no sculpting. Those newer heads even have a different part number.
Re: Boss 302 block
Thanks for the info Randy.
Jeff we ran 163-164 at Seattle.
For some reason I believe I am leaving a bit on the table with this combo.'
Havent been on the dyno yet but I expected a little more with the C heads.
Still just running the 1050 carb on top so that may be part of the problem.

Re: Boss 302 block
I would say thats slow. I went 163 at pomona in super street trim and bad air.
I see heard went 160 or 162 he must have tuned his car.
