Sparkplug advice Empty Sparkplug advice

Post  IndyPete October 24th 2009, 10:02 am

So there is one area I know nothing about... Spark plugs... I went with the ones that were stock for a '71 429 motor at the parts store but I'm not sure if they are good for my combo... I'd love to know a little more about them and what hot vs cold spark plugs do and how to tell what you need.

This is what I got:

545, 9.78:1 CR
Ported D3VE heads
6115 Hooker headers
232/244 cam @ 0.050" Lunatti Voodoo cam
Edelbrock RPM intake, Holley 850 DP

Any thoughts?

If it is 3/4" thread reach, Autolite #3924's
If it is .460" reach tapered seat, Autolite #24

The hex on the plug is 5/8".

the 3/4 reach doesnt work in a stock iron ford 429 head, ARF 42 OR AF 42 STD HEAT 5/8 hex
arf 32 is colder plug,

other wise if it is a big plug head it would be a BRF42 or BF 42 plug, once again BF 32 is colder

YEA, Motorcraft plugs will work too.

Champion, NGK, Nippon Denso, AC, and others have their own plugs which will also work OK.

D0VE's use a completely different thread diameter on the spark plugs than a D3VE head uses.

wow, sorry I missed the d3 part just caught the iron head part! You would have trouble getting my plugs started in those heads without a big hammer!
