P51 466 piston
Are there any off the shelf flat top pistons available? Did a search and with no results.

We may have some vendors on here that can help you out too, but I did a quick search and found this:

Re: P51 466 piston
Thanks coon, I plan on buying from a vendor. I haven't tore down and measured my block yet, just seeing what my options are. I found a bunch of posts saying there isn't an off the shelf piston but they were several years old.
I figured with the SCJ head being such a good deal, someone would have a reasonable piston for a stock stroke by now?

There are none that I know about. Have some flat-tops notched with the correct notch location.
We and a lot of others can sell you pistons with that already done.
The FRPP 460 crate motors had intake notches added to the hypereutectic Federal-Mogul #H612P; which is not a flat-top.
That piston shown is about .420" to short with the wrong pin diameter and is NOT a flat-top.
Re: P51 466 piston
I just went thru this same scenario. I wanted to do a forged internals, stock stroke bottom end to slip under a pair of SCJ's with a roots blower for a '32 Ford street rod build. Couldn't locate a forged crank in stock stroke. I did find that Probe would notch their pistons for SCJ's before sending them to me for a very minimal cost. Ended up just stoking it so as to have a forged crank given the blower belt tension on the snout. But that's just me. I tend to over build for strength.

I was thinking "replacement type" pistons but, if you want a real racing type piston and are willing to pay for 'em then those kind are certainly available.

Mark at probe will make them with the notches if you ask.

Thanks guys, looks like I have some options. I don't mind spending money on a race quality piston. When combined with a good set of rods and cost of balancing, using the stock crank gets awful close $ wise to a stroker kit. hmmmmmmmmmm

If you watch Coast High Performance website they have deals all the time the owner Mark O'neal is a member here as well. I got my 523 rotating assembly with Scat 4340 crank and rods Probe pistons balanced and shipped for only $300 more than what having my factory crank ground with good rods and pistons balanced would have cost. I caught 2 deals on the assembly from Coast they had free balancing on one deal and free shipping on another and let me combine them.
It was an eye opening experience for me and it would be hard to build a stock stroke deal with the knowledge I learned.
My $.02
