Problem with car racing
I went and raced this weekend and there is a problem I noticed when I shift. The car seems to loose power when I shift (C6). I had this problem earlier this year and found it to be a bad float level. I corrected it that day and car has been fine till yesterday.
First run off the trailer no problem at all. Next 3 runs when I hit drive the car would nose dive and pick back up but I was super consistant.
So I pulled the carb off and took it apart and cleaned the whole thing out and put it back on and it did the same thing.
Then I did 2 back to back runs real quick and it nose dived in 2nd and drive.
Car was off just a little on the 60 foots but everyting else was good.
I am getting ready to pull the engine and send the convertor out to be restalled.
What do you guys think?
Thanks Tore

Yea, Sounds like it could be, Tore did you happen to look at FP while you were going down track. When you had bowls off did you check floats?

Re: Problem with car racing
My fuel pressure fluctuates about a pound either way. It just seems to happen when I shift. The car still ran 10.30s to 10.40s all day at 131 to 132 mph.
As cold as it was here I felt the car should have been quicker like 10.20s
Rick I didnt pull the floats out of the bowls and that is probably what I should have done.
On one run when I launched the car and it came back down it just seemed to die when it came down and pick up then hit 2nd die again and just kept going strong till I hit 3rd die a little then finish the run. I was still in the 10.40s. It happens super fast.
I am thinking fuel deep down in the carb somewhere.

Re: Problem with car racing
Are you running a stock tank or fuel cell? do you have jet ext.. What reg are you running? Sound to me some where in the fuel system is action up. What floats are you running are you running the hollow one check for cracks and make shure that they are not full of fuel and keep the float at the bottom of the bowl. Hope this helps.

Re: Problem with car racing
Also, if you are running jet extensions in the rear, make sure that the float is cut for them. If not, it will not be able to drop down all of the way and you will not be able to keep the float bowl full. The other thing to look at would be the size of the needle and seats. The cheaper ones are 0.093" and you can get ones that are 0.110", I run 0.120" ones in mine, and there are also 0.130's.

Re: Problem with car racing
I kind of wondered if that could be the problem, But I have never had any kind of issues like that so I really couldnt relate it to anything other than a fuel issue. One of the guys at the track asked me if I thought it could be the convertor but I couldnt give an educated guess.
I appreciate the input.

Re: Problem with car racing
another thing you might want to check is the needle and seat could be sticking and not moving smoothly.

Re: Problem with car racing
My Tbird started doing something similar, and the fuel filter was getting clogged up. It was missing in high gear . It kept getting worse ,I took the filter out and fixed it. May not be your problem , but you might want to check it?

Re: Problem with car racing
The car is coming back into the barn tonight and start tearing it apart. I am going to pull the fuel filter. I put a new one in the spring but you never know.
Were gonna turn the wick up a tad Rick. I am pretty happy with the car though.

The stall seemed the same . 60fts were off a little bit though. But I didnt see the guy spraying anything on the track possibly because its the last week we could race at this track and he didnt want to crackopena new keg.

What carb?
A carb with a power valve in the secondaries can act like that.
