NHRA Accepted Header Tether System
In 2014 NHRA will require all race cars with removable header collectors to be equipped with an approved tether device to prevent loss of the collector during competition.
Since I do not like putting other people's parts on my car, I developed my own tether kit, had it approved and will offer it for sale. The KFM Kollector Keeper system is made of American top quality materials and assembled by the same skilled production crew that makes all other KFM products. Racing parts made by racers!
Each custom order kit includes all stainless steel T-bolt clamps for any size primary tube and collector, tether cable assemblies and anti-seize compound for installation.
The cable assemblies will be stocked in 10", 16",21". Custom lengths are available at no extra cost.
The Kollector Keeper system will sell for $95.
If you need a tether system, just give me a call at 678-458-2033.
Please don't use this string to vent on the new rule. None of us like new rules, but this one is happening in 2014 and I have a product to fill the application.
You can weld the collectors on if desired and not use a tether.
Info on the rule can be found on NHRAracer.com
Thank you ,
Keith Fulp

What about welding a tab on the collector & also one of the primaries and still use the tether?
Could this be done to eliminate those bulky T-bolt clamps and still be legal ?

Re: NHRA Accepted Header Tether System
I thought about that, but it would require a welded stud or plate to be run through the approval process...and so many people already have coated, chrome or finished headers.Copperhead wrote:What about welding a tab on the collector & also one of the primaries and still use the tether?

From what I learned during the NHRA acceptance process is that a bolt-on solution was desired.
Thanks,
Keith

Yeah...even if there is a tab or bolted loop on each primary, they still require a tether.richter69 wrote:nice product.... for a dumbass rule...... put a tab on each primary tube for the win.
For those of us who inspect and maintain our stuff this rule is aggravating.
For the guy who has to dodge a flying collector in the water box or down track.. It could be good.
It seems like someone looses a collector at just about every major race.
The ones that fall off in the water box have been the scariest ones. They tend to get spit out under a spinning tire.
Thanks,
Keith

There are NHRA approved. Meaning they do not need a SFI certification

Absolutely not. Welded is the best way. If your collectors are welded, you do not need tethers. Bolt together tabs are great and most headers have some sort of bolted system. This tether is not a primary retention. It is intended for when the tabs are cracked, broken or the bolts are missing.
Properly maintained bolted systems are very good. The ones that I have seen fall off had broken tabs or bolts gone.
These are not SFI. I am not aware of any SFI criteria for this part. They are NHRA approved.
Since there are about 7 different primary sizes and 5 common collector sizes, the t-bolt clamp was a durable choice to keep the cost down. Sure, I could make some nice laser cut clamps for all sizes, but it would end up way too expensive.
There are 4 or 5 other suppliers of tethers on the market. If mine are not what you are looking for, the other guys make nice parts.
I will start a string on General for discussion of the rule.
Thank you,
Keith

Keith,
Nice product at an affordable price. I know a competitor has already lowered the price on his due to the groaning over it.

Received My Kollector Keepers tonight
Bump for a good product. Received mine today. Good looking pieces. Silly rule but since we have to have them why not buy them from a forum member. Thanks KFM.
