Here is the 2014 NHRA rule for header tethers.
NHRA Rule Reference

From the NHRA Rule Book on NHRARacer.com:

SECTON 20: GENERAL REGULATIONS, ENGINE: 1, 1.3 EXHAUST (Page 3)

“Effective Jan. 1, 2014, removable multi-piece exhaust collectors/stacks must be securely fastened with an NHRA accepted header tether to prevent loss of collector/stacks during competition. A current list of NHRA-accepted header tethers is available on NHRARacer.com”

This amendment regarding welding each primary tube to the collector can be found on NHRARacer.com

“A rule amendment will be made to the 2014 rule book to allow either an NHRA accepted tethering system or a minimum ½” (half inch) stitch weld located on each primary tube.”

This is a great place to vent about the rule.
I did not make it. I don't like it.
I can understand why they made it.

Keith, your products are top notch, but let me say this....

F-CK NHRA, Im glad I dont race events were they even check for this sort of thing much less my insufficient cage lol.

My ultrabell is out of cert by 6 years, no diaper, hell I got a renewal for my membership last week and it may end up where all the National Dragsters do..... my recycle bin.

if your collectors fall off it wasnt put on right to begin with, or it fell off the pile of shit which if thats the case there are other things I would worry about more.......

End of rant, but again F-CK NHRA. .... That is all lol.

I fully understand.
Collectors that fall off didn't get that way ( cracked tabs or missing bolts) overnight. If things like this are routinely inspected we would have no problems and NHRA would have never have addressed this deal. In my 40 years of racing, I lost one collector in about 1988 in Indy. I had neglected a broken tab and it eventually broke the other one.
Here is my other beef. All sanctioning bodies will let us fabricate our own chassis and suspension parts, but a simple part like this has to be approved.
The approval process was fair and I had to make changes to satisfy their criteria. It still looks like my original idea.

I guess that is why we have several sanctioning bodies. There are lots of tracks and racing organizations. If we find one to our liking....hopefully close to home, all is good.
Thanks
Keith

It seems a lot of NHRA members share your view.

In my opinion ... NHRA simply tollerates the "sportsman" racer to keep them coming back to spend their money. It certainly seems as though they would prefer every major meet to be ONLY the PRO classes.

True enough. The NHRA also gets a bonus for keeping the Sportsman guys around, tho.... When the Sportsman cars hit the water box, the fans hit the midway to get autographs, buy greasy food and Courtney Force t-shirts.
