Old Guys Rule
I have had the time of my life this year. Not having raced since 1972, I had my students do 90% of the work on my mustang. They did everything except the motor and trans. We were building a bracket car.
I was due to retire last March but I am having too much fun with the kids who act as my crew at the races.
stats on my car are:
1988 notch, 393 small block on alky. stock block hard filled. head and main studs with a girdle.
225 AFR heads, Victor intake, QFT 950 carb.
comp cams solid roller with Harland Sharpe shaft rockers.
4:56 8.8 rear with a spool and strange axles
Kooks headers
the car weighs 2540 with out me in it. best time is 1.35 60 ft. 9.76 @ 138+ 7400 rpm in the traps
How could I not have a good time with this? lol Bigger and better things planned for next year.
How many of us over 55 are still racing? Add your name and age here please.
Larry Williams age 65 and climbing.

Will be 64 in December
Drove my street, mostly show, 67 Fastback to Silver Dollar in Reynolds, Ga. Sunday. Put on a set of mounted Hoosier Quick Time Prp DOT slicks, made 6 passes, best of 10.31 @ 135.8. Had a blast!!
565ci, SCJ, 4150 950cfm Holley, Tremec 5 speed, McLoed street twin clutch & thru the mufflers
Loved blowing the doors off the late model Shelbys, Camaros, Dodges and most of all the rice burners.
9/27/10
Went to the Old Drag Racers Reunion in Panama City Fla. last Saturday. Lots of Ford stuff, Bill Dismuke, Dick Brannen, Sol Stewart, Hubert Platt, Randy Payne, Roy Hill and many more there. Most went to Breakaway Raceway north of Panama City that night and raced until after midnight. "Old Rusty", a 55 Chevy sedan is owned and driven by a 72 year old that is the original owner. Old style gasser that wheel stands 1st and 2nd gear. Wildest bunch of old guys I have ever seen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like seeing the older guys still racing like they were 25 and going strong. 50, 60, 70... Its cool to see them still going fast.

Get out! Your not 56. I thought you were in your 40's, you didn't look that old at Norwalk. But then again it was dark and my contacts weren't in. Dan's older than I thought too. Guess I misjudged.

I don't feel any different than I did when I was 40. Seems like was 16 a short time ago Justin,so have fun as long as you can because blink and you are where we are. I have a friend in Wva. that is in his 70's and holds the S/S B et record at I think 8.85 w/64 Tbolt and its a stick car.

The only thing bad about being 55 is those damn AARP invitation letters. Screw 'em.

OLD
I'm not 50 yet...47, and love this stuff. I also started when I was 16 in a dirt tracker. Sprint car at late 16 just before 17 birthday. Drag racing since 21. I think I'm like a good bottle of scotch. the older the better.

Re: Old Guys Rule
Man ,I'm glad I'm not in your class !! Whew ,almost felt OLD there for a split second. Old Denaro really looks the part now, with all that gray hair I feel it when I roll my ass out of bed , but as long as they got meds to keep me going..I'm good to go. I started bracket racing in 1975 in my 1966 Mercury Comet...I still have it I've still got every race car I've ever had. But ,I'm not 55 either, I'm just a pup to you Old Farts, damn I like that feeling Race on you Old guys
