580 SCJ Head on E85
This is the motor that I built after my 547 blew up last year.
580 cu-inches from 4.53 bore and 4.5 stroke
A460 block, Diamond pistons 4cc reverse dome.
Scat 6.700 H beam rods (steel)
Scat 4.500 Forged steel crank
Ackerly and Childs rings, 3/4 groove main bearings Clevite, Clevite rod bearings, ARP stud kits for both mains and heads.
Kaase oil pump, Canton windage tray heavily modified, Canton double pan for rear sump 7-8 qt. the cheap one, modified by removing the scraper.
Heads are worked over FMS SCJ that flow 405/245 at .700 lift. Changed to have 2.25 intake valves, TI retainers, and PAC springs.
Cam is a Lem grind Comps solid roller that goes around 285/295 duration at .050 with .685 lift, LSA is 111 dialed in at 108 ICL (aproximate numbers)
FMS roller chain, FMS pushrods, Crane Gold roller rockers, and Jomar stud girdles, FMS balancer.
TFS intake with minimal port match work to the SCJ's.
1350 CFM E85 dominator built by Eric at Horsepower Innovations.
Locked out MSD distributor at 30 degrees.
13.4 to 1 compression on E85 with Aeromotive fuel system.
In a 3150 pound car ran best of 9.30 at 146 mph but with more suspension tuning will lower that by 1 to 2 tenths next year. Runs were made while thru the 4" exhaust (Flowmaster 44's) with 2.25 tube headers. This package was run over 300 miles on the street this year and is very reliable.
I thank Lem Evans for his mentoring to get this done. Lem got me the parts I needed at a great price and looked over my direction to get me to where I am today including setting up the used A460 block purchase.

The 69 Mustang in the avitar. Tranny is a partially rollerized C6 with a 4600 rpm stall. 3.82 gear with 14.5W x 32 Hoosiers.windsor wrote:Sweet!

It traps at 6600 and 60s at 1.34 while foot braking it.
It needs a 4.11 or 4.30 gear. I've been shifting it at 6300 and will go up to 6700 next year.

Thanks for the complements. Don't know the horsepower but it runs away from others that dyno at 800 up. It seems to run best when Dale (Quick52) is at the track. I just need to cut a consistent light.

Makes good sense, I'm just impressed at the performance on such a short cam. But duration is up there too. Impressive as hell regardless.

Updated after a few changes
Its been 5 years and now the car now runs 9.03's in 1700 ft air.
Changes are P51 heads and the cam is bigger mainly going from .685 lift to .735 with a tighter LSA was 110.5 and now 108. Also a 5,000 stall replaced the 4,600. Added a trans brake and now DA rear shocks.
I figure that the head change from SCJ to P51 was worth .15 seconds at best
The cam is worth .07
The rest is worth the remainder.
60fts are now 1.26 change from 1.34
MPH is now 148 where it was 146.
The stall at 5,000 is probably hurting it where I shift at 6,400 it seems to be blowing thru 2nd gear (C6).
Performance changes for a rebuild before next season.
Ceramic coat the pistons and re-hone bores.
Increase intake valve size from 2.25 to 2.30
Tighten up the converter 300 rpm.
Rebuild the trans with some rollerizing but will stay C6
Undecided changes but on the fence
Gas port the pistons
Modify the plenum ends to improve air flow on the TFS intake.
Install a crankcase vacuum pump
Reduce the gear ratio from 3.75 to 3.64 or 3.55 It now traps at 6,800 and seems to be done.
A full drag pan to replace my cheap Canton Fox pan.
Comments are welcome.

Good improvements. Are the P51s ported?
Vacuum pump for sure.

Yes they are ported. 580 cubes seems to be big for P51's. I also run that with the exhaust on at the track.
Maybe Blake will have something to say about that.

A factory Mustang II suspension. This car is heavy at over 3250 with my 185# in it. It is close to 50/50 weight distribution.

Good info. Runs well I think! You’ll get in the 8s for sure.

If I could cut the difference in half with Blakes signature I'd be happy. Something like 8.75 would be great but its probably not possible. Almost a 3/10 change. Makes me wonder how much the extra 250# and fuel difference is contributing.
